Fan Favorites - Episode 44: Songs From The Master List - Volume IX

This ended up being one of the more eclectic Fan Favorites countdowns we've ever done. I thoroughly enjoyed these selections. I'm hearing some of these bands for the first time, and they're all under-represented. I hope you enjoy!

10CC - I'm Mandy, Fly Me
Opeth - Universal Truth
The Stranglers - Golden Brown
Hawkwind - Master of the Universe
Pete Townshend - Let My Love Open the Door (Live)
Roxy Music - Do The Strand
The Clash - London Calling
Santana - Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen

Yep!

I thought that... though maybe going through some of Del Dettmar's electronics....?

I forgot to mention 10CC... if you like them, check out CATS in SPACE (capitalisation is their's - they insist on it!) who are a modern 70s sounding band sounding like the child of 10CC, Mott The Hoople, Queen, etc... You have one song on the master list .....

Far and away the best Fan Favourites.... great to finally hear some Roxy (EPL of the first three albums would be good...) and more Hawkwind (how about A Space Ritual one day?). And Santana - the whole of Abraxas....??? PS well done Chris!!

The sound in Hawkwind's Master of the Universe I believe it is a Saxophone (played by Nik Turner).

Doug! If you haven't heard it in full, I'd HIGHLY recommend listening to The Clash's London Calling album in full. It's chock full of musical variety, some neat chord changes, and outstanding lyrics. There's a reason it's so often considered one of the best albums ever made!

Yay Stranglers! Roxy Music too

A major, beautiful, nostalgia trip for me. The time went by so fast. There's so much more to get to from all these musicians, so I'm excited for the future.

10cc, Stranglers, Hawkwind, Roxy, the Clash, Santana and Supertramp on YouTube. This has just about covered my youth in one week!

Chris Gadsby

The 'Abraxas' album opens with the instrumental 'Singing Winds Crying Beasts', which fades directly into 'Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen', which in turn fades into 'Oye Como Va'. This is a magnificent album that needs to be heard in its entirety.

Joe Harley

Now we need an EPL of Abraxas, truly a classic album.
