The legend of Hantim and Apaus

Inscription 1

In the time of Bahdia, the blessed patrons of Hantim and apaus gave tribute to the havens. Hant was a shepherd who traveled the length of the earth in the raising of his herd. Apaus was a gardener who in her dwelling sowed and reaped fruits.

Hantim learned many things in his travels and sought to bring his beloved to share in his findings. Apaus turned down Hantim’s offers. So did she say the matters of earth are void. Let them come to us if they want our loyalty.

Time passed. With each trek, Hantim jealously grew. Who traveled the length of the earth and slept beside his offerings in the coldest of nights and hottest of days. Why must Apaus be granted the favor of the heavens?

In his jealousy, and all-consuming entitlement, on the eve of the day's offerings, Hantim reconciled with his wife and how they would come to the temple together.

When Apaus turned to face the orchard, Hatim raised his cain.

His crime was discovered and he was stripped of his post, cursed twice over, and banished to walk the earth for eternity.

Inscription 2

He began his long journey north. Of open fields of war and chaos. He mastered dark arts and mated with his herd to foster bastard children with the minds of mortals and the abilities of beasts.

His offspring went into the wilderness finding reverence amongst the inhabitants, ascending to become the lords of the warring peoples who been everywhere and belong nowhere.

Oh, my people beware of the sons of Hatim and his people, who despoil the land of your homes, your families, and riches. Be small, walled, without light, lest ye become a witness to the call of Hatim.
