How Animal Guts Gutted the 14th Amendment | The Slaughterhouse Cases

Supreme Court Briefs returns, beginning with an important decision that most Americans don't know about. It started with animal guts in the drinking water of New Orleans. It ended with a very narrow interpretation of the 14th Amendment that stood for decades.

Thanks to Kit Walker for suggesting this one. Kit's also a government teacher, by the way!

Thank you all for your continued support. I've been going a 100mph for weeks now, so I will only do a livestream at some point in the final two weeks of the year (decade). I have a lot of suggestions to get through in January, February, and March, so look forward to that. If you have any questions about when your suggestions will be made into videos, please do not hesitate to message me.

Thanks again, and happy holidays!

The corruption issue became secondary. The Court looked more at whether or not they could intervene to begin with according to the 13th and 14th.

Mr. Beat

That was great, Supreme Court Briefs is my favorite series. The injustice of that ruling is startling. Not only was the court saying it did not have power to break the monopoly, but it also turned a blind eye to corruption. I am curious about whether the plaintiffs ever got the opportunity to introduce the corruption in oral arguments. What was the proof of corruption? Was there a corresponding conviction already? What is your opinion of the relavance of the corruption to the SC case?

Thanks Kit! Hopefully it will be useful in classrooms like some of my other episodes. :)

Mr. Beat

Love it, Mr. Beat! Thank you! Great work, I know it’s not easy to make these.
