Memphis and Nashville Compared

We filmed on location for this Compared video. What a treat it was to get to visit both cities for a few days back in April. As many of you already know, I'm a pretty big music fan, so these are two of my favorite cities in the country by far. That said, Nashville is getting too crowded, dad gomit. Oh dang, I sounded like an old person there. I'm sorry about that.

Memphis and Nashville Compared

Oh that'd be a fun one. Well thank you and I'm so glad you appreciated the Walking in Memphis sneak attack. 😄

Mr. Beat

Great comparison video. I’ve been to both cities multiple times and you summed them up very well. Also, great transition with the Marc Cohn song “Walking in Memphis” by the way! Suggestion for a future comparison video- New Orleans and Charleston, South Carolina.

Naterade

Dang, that was really well put. I should have had you look over my script before I made the video. Thanks for sharing all that.

Mr. Beat

Lived almost 40 years in Tennessee - in both Memphis and Nashville. Memphis is a big older city with blue collar roots, a ton of history & culture, and IMO better food by a country mile. More authentic hipster/Bohemian culture here too, hard to explain. But, suffers the social ills and crime from being the big city of the Mississippi Delta and magnet of displaced rural farm labor post the mechanization of agriculture. Nashville is newer, shinier, more dynamic and diverse economically, and overall a current "It" city; but also less authentic than it used to be and much more bougie. A lot of what made Nashville unique and attractive (again IMO) is being built over by amenities and chain brands found in any big fast growing city.

Mos def visit both!

Mr. Beat

Well this comment made my day as well!

Mr. Beat

Now I have some more things from each city to put on my travel bucket list. Thank you for this video. Another fun comparison.

Same with me, I think I remember asking you about this like a couple months ago, i've been super excited for it to come out ever since, as a former Memphis resident myself, having my city in a Mr Beat video has sparked such a great sense of pride in me!!! Great video, always love these compared ones, thanks for making my day!!!

Well thanks for the kind words. Yeah Nashville is where my good friend used to live (he actually lives in Asheville now, believe it or not!), so I've been to Nashville at least 4-5 times.

Mr. Beat

Obsers Gaming, I don't know how far you live from Nashville, but it is a must-visit. It's beautiful. The music scene is incredible on Broadway.

I, too, have been looking forward to this one for a long time. Great work! I've never been to Memphis. However, I once lived in 4-hour-away Indianapolis and now live near Asheville, NC, so I've been to Nashville many times. Most recently August 2022 when it was 97 degrees for a weekend without kids. Epic, wonderful city. Hopefully we can make it to Memphis sometime as well. Thanks for doing this video.

Michael Burt

Neither, though of course your videos do help get an understanding (I imagine that’s what they’re for lol) I would like to visit both at some point though

Ralph W. Kelly

Well I appreciate that Osbers. :) Have you been to either of these cities?

Mr. Beat

I’ve been hyped for this for ages, as always your videos don’t disappoint!
