What is systemic racism?

I put off producing this one for three years because I was afraid I wouldn't get it right. Maybe I still didn't get it right, but I sure gave it my best shot. Regardless, you'll definitely get to know me and my history a bit better in this one. In fact, you get to see me on location where I used to substitute teach and coach!

Thank you for your continued support.

What is systemic racism?

Thank you Robert

Mr. Beat

Very good video, though I’ve grown cynical about who is actually listening and learning. Still, someone needs to speak. Keep on keeping on…

Robert Kandell

Thank you and I agree that tackling extreme wealth inequality would go a long way in solving the problem.

Mr. Beat

Also, sadly as a country we don’t really value things that you can’t Monetize like public schools, social workers, homelessness, etc. to help improve this issue.

Naterade

Job well done on covering this topic. While we have made tremendous progress addressing this issue over the last few decades, there’s still a lot of work to be done. A great place to start would be tackling the wealth inequality crisis in this country. Money=Power.

Naterade

P.s. I know I commented somewhere else or thought I did! Lol I know it hasn't been released yet there, or maybe it was here and I didn't save it!

Stacey

Don't be nervous! U did so well!

Stacey

Those are all excellent reforms. I'm not 100% bought into UBI anyway. My fear is inflation. But yeah, as you said, voting reforms and ending the War on Drugs will go a long way. The First Step Act was a big STEP (ha see what I did there) in the right direction. Thank you for thinking so deeply about this complex topic.

Mr. Beat

I suspect I might as well but I have similar sentiments. :) And thank you for the kind words!

Mr. Beat

It's often so subtle that we miss it. Working in the inner city was so good for me in terms of getting me out of my bubble, but honestly I felt way out of my bubble in the wealthy suburbs as well.

Mr. Beat

Oh and thank you for the kind words!

Mr. Beat

Yeah, it's important to always look at class when you look at any kind of injustice. Researching for this video just solidified the idea that it really is wealth inequality as a driving force of much of the social unrest we see today.

Mr. Beat

I appreciate the kind words! This makes me much less nervous to release this today. :)

Mr. Beat

This is a lot to dissect. So one big problem with the word systemic racism is the word racism. Racism implys that another people group is currently and actively oppressing another. the definition of systemic concludes that is not the case in most instances. i don't know what other word would be better but the word racism invokes action must be taken by another group must stop doing some action. Poverty is the reason why you see whites from poorer rural neighborhoods having the same cultural, health, and other issues as blacks. the only difference between the issues of poor rural whites and those effected by SR is the issue or longer prison sentences, and the cause of the poverty. I think there are solutions to SR but i disagree with most those brought forth because those brought forth can actually escalate the issue. for example universal basic income that you brought up. in cases were people have been given a hand out only a small number use it to help take the next step. to get out of poverty you must make the next step not for your sake but your children's sake. My thought on what a solution is, is to end the war on drugs, grant voting rights to none violent offenders, and grant school choice so the money government spends on you for school can go to the school of your choice. those are only a first step however, the next is cultural. each indvidual must chose to build up moral foundations to help them build family units which requires more then what i have time to type. Finally you shouldnt expect to be rich in your life but work so your kids will have that next step up. this is the attitude people took from the great depression that wernt held back. and people who were held back now that they have the freedom to take that attitude must in order to help the next generation succeed. Anyways its too bad that crazy people got ahold of this word and CRE. it is sad as well that the solution other then three things cant be helped by government all that much but ultimatly SR is a crazy word the muddys the issue and panics people to take actions that do more harm then good.

Devin Canada

Yes. There are some who say that systemic racism isn't real, including POC Candace Owens who is paid to say that.

D.F.

This is real good work Mr. Beat. Very encouraging to see you on the correct side of history on this one... I suspect maybe you might lose only some subscribers addressing this topic but who needs 'em. I have a slightly shorter phrase for this but will leave it out.

DANTE VERONA

This is a really hard topic and I think you covered it thoroughly. Just very well done. I wish I could articulate so much of what you say here in my day to day life in North Carolina, where systemic racism certainly still persists as it does in much of the country.

Michael Burt

This is a huge topic, and a very well done video once again. I knew there was something more in depth within racism and discrimination, and I think you pretty much covered it all. Poverty pretty much was in front of us this whole time, but it's just not clear enough for many to realize that... Anyway, excellent work as always.

Jesse Bakken

Best video you have ever made and I love many! This issue is very close to my heart! You did this with great class and grace and honesty and I couldn't ask for more. I've already commented on YouTube, but must shout out here to a job well done! Excellent!
