2024-05-19 22:20:17 +0000 UTCwhile the announcement of same-sex marriages being allowed for queer royals in sweden happened a few months after young royals aired - it wasn't actually the show that inspired or pushed them to do it. it was because the dutch had released a statement about queer heirs to the throne being able to still be in the line of succession. a couple of days later sweden followed the dutch lead. https://www.thepinknews.com/2021/10/21/royals-same-sex-marriage-sweden/ there is still an issue though that any children the queer monarch has would need to be a "lawful descendant" in order to be a rightful heir to the throne. therefore, children of the queer monarch wouldn't be a "lawful descendant" as the law stands - but the royal house of both the netherlands and sweden have said they'll cross that bridge if and when they come to it.

After Young Royals season 1 was released the Swedish Royals family posted a statement that they would support having a queer heir - I just hope it was genuine. Funfact: I am learning Swedish with Duolingo and one of the first phrases you learn is "Hej då, Erik" (Goodbye Erik)
