No, you won’t be able to withstand their reaction. While you keep them at a distance, while you don’t hear their softly scolding words, don’t see their saddened expression, the change in their attitude can’t hurt you.
Perhaps you’ll be able to look the truth in the face later, when you get your bearings, but not now. Now it would be a heavy blow.
Anyone can throw a stone at you and you won’t care, but if Ashmedai throws it, you will die.
The story is written with the idea of the Oracle and Ashmedai knowing each other since they were children (and crushing into each other).
The Oracle is around Ashmedai's age; everything else is the same. It turned out kind of angsty because it happens around the time the Oracle gets into that incident. But at least it’s not just angst, but hurt/comfort!

You actually meet their family in this one (except for their elder sister), though I tried not to give too much details because this meeting might happen in the story, and that’s where I want to give the main info on them.
