The Case of Charles Erickson

The Case of Charles Erickson

Comments

Heyyy it's Kris@

Christina Simpler

Yeah, and the most infuriating thing is that this is not the first or only time that has happened. Probably not the last either. One case that really angers me is the West Memphis murders where three boys were brutally murdered and three teenagers were innocently convicted and spent almost 20 years in prison. You have probably heard about it.

SaGu

This case really angered me. Not only did the detective act inappropriately but the prosecution team didn’t care about finding the actual killer (s) they only wanted a conviction to close the case. I’m so disgusted at everyone involved. That being said..... great work as always Mike!!

Candice Ros

Thanks for this Mike... what a frustrating case...think it is time to head to Florida or Canada for some run of the mill bad guy stuff...

Simon Cumming

Mike, what’s the best way for somebody to contact you re: potential business? :)

Robert

Please disregard my prior post. Just tried closing and reloading for the 6th or 7th time, and it worked! Yay! *gettin my fix* 😉

Rachel Webster

Hmmm... the one time I didn’t watch the video the same minute it was posted... and now it says ‘video has been removed by the uploader.’ Anyone know what’s going on with this? Mikey? I need my TC fix. 😔

Rachel Webster

That cop knew this wasn't the perpetrator. If there were any justice, he would finish out the two sentences.

Sash Johnson

Great coverage, and so sad. I can't believe they didn't have him tested for delusion or any form of mental illness. I've had some seriously vivid dreams but I've never gone to the cops about them. :S

Remy Darling

Of all the cases you've covered, I think this one is the most messed up. It had me made at the utter failure on so many people's parts.

Lena Boylan-Rosio

Thats where Uni of Missouri is

Mister Dumpass

https://youtu.be/dXidW7fEH8g I couldn't stop laughing at the dream kid at the start. Seen the metal remix? 😂

Kayleigh Nokes

Brilliant video as usual Mike. Are there ever any come backs for these bullying types of interrogation ?

Stephen Swift

That was NOT an investigation, that was a disgraceful and epic miscarriage of justice. Thank you Kathleen Zellner.

Shirlene Reid

P.S. I totally agree with everyone. This was a fascinating case which I had never heard of, and your video was really good. Thanks for interesting content to keep us from going insane in quarantine. ❤️

Rebecca S Kent

I think it’s criminal that an investigator be permitted to give coercive interviews. In my opinion, after watching a ton of videos of interviews just as maddening as this one, ALL interviews should be conducted in the presence of a defense attorney, regardless of whether or not a defendant requests one. This would eliminate the need for many expensive mistrials, and it would also eliminate the appearance of guilt when one exercises their right to counsel, which is the only thing a smart person should ever do. Here in the United States, the police often view obtaining counsel as incriminating, which is ridiculous. Is it the same n Ireland? I feel that it may be harder to convict criminals in the U.K. , do you agree? And do you agree that the U.S. has way too many people incarcerated, or do you think there are more criminals per capital here? I believe this crime occurred before “touch DNA” on the belt was a possibility, but even if evidence was kept after the convictions, it would be an uphill battle to get Missouri to test it.

Rebecca S Kent

Missouri aka misery state is a world in its own 🙄 not in a good way either. That young man was manipulated by that lazy and incompetent cop! My husband always said, most cops are lazy, he may be right 🤔. I hope that young man gets released soon!!! Ty for this video sweetie. Take care and stay safe 😷

Minister Elana C Henderson

I thought the sketch looked more like Ryan than Charles. Then again, draw a pair of glasses onto it... and it is Mike!

Eddie Glass

Did they NOT test the belt used in the murder for touch DNA? Youd think theyd test the magazines for fingerprints and see if Kent was actually handling the magazines. This is really strange its almost like they were trying to wrap up the murder without having any evidence pointing to any suspects. And the phone calls themselves could have proved that at least Ryan was at home during the attack. Crazy!

pozorrogo

Poor Ryan. The idea of being implicated in a murder like that, by a friend, because he had a dream is crazy . I'm never giving anyone a ride home

Joycee

Columbia Police Department are a bunch of bumbling idiots. WHY were Boyd's fingerprints never compared to those at the scene? Especially with his belongings strewn about. Oh, I know! Because dummy lummy Erickson confesses and the police are too lazy to do a proper investigation. Even when the facts are staring them in the face. Suuuuuuueeey

Alicia Hoverson

Most of the time eye witness testimony in my opinion is completely useless. Hard evidence like DNA should not be put below testimony. Sure, Charles is an idiot but it seemed like his heart was in the right place. The justice system failed him probably because they wanted a quick victory but to role out all the crime scene evidence that shows neither of them committed the crime is blatant miscarriage of justice. The DA and judge should be removed from power. The nameless non-suspect (who was last to see him alive) should go buy some lottery tickets because he is one lucky SOB.

Chris Drake

Were the defense attorneys asleep at the wheel?

Red37

What a crazy case! I don't know how the police and the DA could go forward with this evidence and ignore such an obvious suspect. Wow.

Carolyne S.

Probably one of my favorite videos of your to date mike great job what a compelling case wow

Jack

Awesome coverage Mike. I blame the prosecution *mostly* and the police were negligent in not investigating the sportswriter. But you've put me in the position of having to defend the police for once as far as the interview. The police often lie or mislead suspects as to what evidence they have. You have to remember they are often dealing with hardened criminals or sociopathic lying manipulators (Scott Peterson) and there's nothing illegal about trying to trip up the suspect that way. It's like someone telling their spouse "hey I heard you talking in your sleep about how you had sex with your co-worker that night when you came home real late" to get them to confess. And if it leads to a child killer admitting to what they've done, so be it. In this case Charles is just a fucking idiot for having started the rumor in the first place and then basically teasing around about it with the interviewer. To the interviewer it probably sounded like OJ's book "If I *DID* kill Nicole here's how I would have done it". I mean come on. "I don't really know anything about it but I'm just here because I feel guilty about it and I want to get it off my chest". granted there are false confessions out there and the police should't have fallen for it. Their culpability is manly of omission by not investigating the more viable suspect. But the worse culpability (one of COmmission) is the DA actively obfuscating the trut.

dougie

Thanks Mike 😊😊

Michael Kerr

Oh my god....fuck this cop.

DEADisBEAUTIFUL .

Perfect timing, Mike. And awesome video “as always”. Thank you for what you do! PS - hopefully you see this- thank you for the “27th” birthday message! It absolutely made my birthday amazing. I was so surprised. Seriously- the best. 🍻

Rachel Milani

Always kicking ass with the video content! Thanks Mike, keep being amazing.
