The Unsolved Case of Elizabeth Barraza
Added 2021-05-20 10:44:31 +0000 UTC
Hey everyone! Here's the latest, an unsolved case for a change. Don't usually tend to cover unsolved ones, but this one is crazy baffling, like Missy Bevers or Delphi murders. Hope you enjoy! Back to solved cases after (which I, and I think most prefer as it wraps everything up)
Unsolved?! Noooo

It would be more that someone was hitting her if she were related to them. I don't know, I'm only speculating. I don't know how common the name Barraza might be.

That is interesting. Seeing that the Texas Rangers had some sort of a lead. And they deal with these kind of organizations and border stuff. Is Barraza a common name or a rare one?

There was a criminal involved in the Sinaloa Cartel nearby - last name was Barraza too. Maybe not related, but that looked like a professional hit.

Maybe some knew she was going to Florida and decided Texas should get credit for a murder instead of Florida. As we know, living in either state can get you murdered.

I suspected the husband as well but am now doubtful. If it was a paid hit from him, they wouldn't need to scout out the house prior to this. They would have all the info and details from the husband. It couldn't have been a gang initiation either due to the dressing up or disguise I'm my opinion. I don't know. Makes me want to look into her work a bit more. It was such a terrible tragedy. I hope they find the murderer or murderers. It was not random.

Wondering...it’s not unfeasible that the hit was by mistake. What might suggest that is the one day scout out of her neighborhood just the day before, she did not know the person as a threat until the gun was pulled, and after the hit was done the truck circles round again. That suggests that the hit person may have painted the target on the wrong person and that the hit person may not have been too certain of his or her target even though they were committed on making the kill. The hit person was probably surveilling the house for an opportunity to kill her and the opportunity presented itself when it was clear the husband was gone and she was right out in the open in relative darkness. I am no expert at all but it seems feasible. No matter what this is weird and absolutely tragic.

The shooter moves into the frame of camera partially several times! Would love to see if sketch artists took a look at this Ring cam footage. Also, any street cams around their home catch sight of the truck in those couple of days?
Personally I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a paranoid delusional person thinking they were on a great big mission and she was in the wrong place, just her time to go - very quick as we have seen sometimes people go less so.

thank you Mike! when I first found your channel, I made a private playlist with all of your videos about solved cases, because those unsolved cases make me so angry - but then when I had no more Mike Oh to binge on, I went back and made a playlist of all the unsolved cases and blasted through those! turns out I love anything you make, solved or unsolved, early days or recently published. can't wait to watch this one!

The only reason I suspect the husband is because of the narrow, narrow window between her putting out garage sale signs (they had to know she would be out at this time), and her going back into the house or being unreachable. I suppose there was a drive by stake out but thats not enough to reveal a pattern (ie they go to work at this time). I mean it could have been anyone who knew about those movements. Also, it looks like a woman, I agree. But I thought the perp sounded like a man?

2021-05-21 13:06:12 +0000 UTC
Yeah, you’re right. Could also be a guy who liked her a lot but never hassled her enough to have it mentioned. Or a woman who was jealous of her and just wanted her gone. It’s insane how there’s not one suspect, the husband isn’t even questionable, I don’t think he had any involvement, unless he’s good at covering his tracks. I hope not though. I do hope it is solved, it’s so senseless to murder a sweet person out of nowhere; only Elizabeth and her killer(s) know why.
Lemi Chilmister
2021-05-21 12:39:21 +0000 UTC
I think it was a woman. She seemed quite casual and cheery in her ‘good morning’, would Elizabeth have been so upbeat if a bloke in a dress and bad wig had approached her at that time of the day, unexpectedly and alone?
Jane Ebbon
2021-05-21 07:55:18 +0000 UTC
So no one knew that she was having a garage sale (as what I recall Mike saying from the video) the person had scouted the area the day before.. it’s all so strange. I though it looked like a woman at first but, when I looked at the stature again, it seems to be a pretty husky guy. I wonder what she answered yes to? Was it the person asking her name.... are you so and so. “Yes” Look forward to the next video, and I hope this gets solved. So many unanswered questions.

Did Police look at tracking down every owner of that vehicle and going through a process of elimination? Understandably, Texas is massive, but even if the killer didn't live in the immediate area, they might have lived in or around Houston. The numbers might not be completely insurmountable, especially if Nissans weren't all that popular

This one touched me. Maybe because it seems to be so senseless (I don't think the husband was involved, he seemed really distraught)... I agree that some kind of exchange has happened, but I can't understand why Elizabeth didn't cry out loud when she saw the gun. And, to me, the killer looks like a woman, even when she rushes back to the car. Also I believe there was an accomplice driving the car, because when we see the killer appear from the right, we can also see the car is still moving.
As always, thanks Mike, and have a nice and restful weekend.
Please don't forget to update us if you know anything else! Be well and be healthy.

What's bothering me is it looks like a woman but I would swear that's a male voice I hear in the audio. The killer knowing she would be outside that early as well knowing to stay off the ring camera screams the husband was involved. But normally if he was having an affair they can figure that out pretty fast. Unless they didn't get a warrant to check cell phone records / their PC

It's possible that she mentioned the yard sale to someone. Also, her husband could have. What did he do after? Immediately get a girlfriend? Go on a shopping spree with insurance money? I don't know. I don't think that he had anything to do with it. He clearly loved her.

The way the shoulders move, the way the legs move, also the voice from the Ring, the overfitting dress, the way the breasts appear disembodied, I think it was in thisn assassin’s interest to mislead the police as much as possible. Believing this was a woman does just that. I’d even believe it was a woman in some sort of costume. However, to me, the appearance of this killer doesn’t seem natural at all. It also seems that they’re uncomfortable running with that hair.

I'm leaning towards a psycho spurned lover of the husband. Perhaps she was lying in wait for the husband to leave and then planned to gun her down in the house, but she just happened to be outside.

I thought the same, the shots weren't immediate, something was said and it sounds like she wasn't aware she was in any danger and was only just taking in what was being said. Very similar to the gym instructor one but weirder because this garage sale was a one off not a regular event.

I don't think many American's under 80 would get the reference to wood for the 5th year. I liked it. Immediate gut reaction: a jealous woman, someone that met the her hubby via cosplay.

There is such a long time between her greeting the person and then the sound of the shooting. About 6 seconds. At no time do you hear her scream for help. I remember Mike covering a weird case a while back where a female and her companion went around killing people riding their bikes and minding their own business etc, she didn’t know any of the victims. They say the ones where the victims and killer don’t know each other are the hardest to solve... I though her husband sounded genuine and very grief stricken when he is talking at the gathering, the fact no one else has been shot in the same way since makes you think it’s not a random serial killer in the making, it’s a poser all right,

The only person who could of known where she was going to be and what she was going to be doing was the husband, she was due to be home all day on her own so plenty of opportunity, wonder how much prepping the husband done for the trip might give some insight weather he knew there was not going to be a trip etc. My moneys on him, he wanted out but didn’t want to lose everything in a divorce and be the “bad guy” so made himself the victim whilst retaining the house money etc etc, bet his got a side bitch somewhere xxx

I don’t think so. When this happened, I remember the 501st and sister org Rebel Legion community sharing the heck out of the story to try and get the word out, at least nationwide. While yes there are some whiny butts in the legions, no one would do this. They have very high standards because they do work with children.

That demon killed a sweet angel. Definitely looked like a dude running away and then the voice sounded male. I know Pipelines can cause some serious violence and major protests. I really hope they solve this soon - the video (well audio really) is harrowing, and her family deserve to know what happened and why they were robbed of their time with this lovely person and she had her life stolen.
