The Case of Mark Carver
Added 2020-10-08 09:41:42 +0000 UTC
The latest! I thought this one was a pretty interesting whodunit. Also, finally decided on a Halloween video! It should be fun, different than the usual case of the week video. Don't want to say too much as I haven't firmed anything down, and need to go and do some filming for it but I'll post some behind the scenes about it here when I get into it
Thank you for covering this! I live 5 minutes from where this happened and I also went to UNC Charlotte so this is a very prominent case in this area.

Let this be a lesson: do not talk to the police without an attorney present. (Though I'm not sure if the attorney Carver ended up with would have been much help, but that's a different issue.)

In any case, I think that the poor guy Mark is completely innocent.

Sure, the circumstances and scene are strange, but it is quite possible that this was a suicide. If the cords around her neck were tied, it is quite possible that she tied them onto herself. It sure isn't impossible to kill yourself like that. And the fact that she gave away so much of her stuff just before adds to that possibility. She must have been in quite a state, though. Maybe she had some sort of psychosis?
In any case, I think that Mark is completely innocent. Poor guy.

I’m wondering if the police planted the DNA in the car to get a conviction. For some reason they decided Mark was guilty and put it there to “prove’ their case. It’s been done before. You expect police and other people in authority to tell the truth but ‘Nope’

Another commenter posted a link with a really good breakdown of the suicide Theory. She had actually attempted suicide a few times in high school but her family hushed it up during the trial.

I've seen more of his interrogation, and it's heartbreaking. At one point he says his DNA must've gotten on her car when he spit in the river. That cop knew he had a simple man in the chair and should have realized he was leading him.

I agree that it was likely suicide. In one crime scene photo, she has part of the bungee cord in her hand. And she gave all her possessions to Salvation Army that morning.

I've known about this case since it happened and I strongly believe the men are innocent as well. So far, through all the cases I've followed and knew they were innocent, they were released from jail eventually. This is a very strange case but who ever done it was obviously wearing gloves and being careful. I heard other theories which you never mentioned... I think her boyfriend was one of the theories mentioned but I can't quite remember as it's been awhile since I researched the case.

The footage of him in jail just broke my heart. If he'd killed her I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be found fishing near the crime scene. This shows that you should never talk to the police even if you are innocent. They aren't on your side. Give a respectful "no comment" and wait for your lawyer.

Is it just me, or have you been including more interview clips than you have in the past? For what it's worth, I'm loving it! I got so into the interrogation of Mark, roughly halfway through, that when it ended and you reappeared, it actually startled me. The news clips are great too; they make it seem as if events are unfolding live. Keep it up!!

I don't trust every police officer and if this cop was being pressed to close the case, he found the easiest person to pin it on. Mark was railroaded. His attorney was probably in on it. Just throw the defenseless guy in prison forever and put another notch on your belt. Sadly, this is a terrible injustice for the actual victim of the crime too.

Not to mention that Durst completely got away with murdering his wife (at least everyone around here who knew either of them are sure he's the one who "disappeared" her decades ago) and that right now he is in the middle of a trial for killing his oldest friend (suspended due to virus -- hope he doesn't die before the trial continues). He's creepy and loony.

Yet another strike against the US criminal "justice" system -- a whole lot of public defenders are completely incompetent and often do their clients more harm than good.

I feel so bad for Mark. I really do think he is innocent. Of course this leaves questions of who done it. I mean it is very possible it was a suicide. I'd love to know more about the woman and get some back story about her. Thanks Mike x

There is no way Mark Carver would have willingly given a DNA sample to the police if he had committed the crime. While he has a lower IQ, he understood what DNA is when he was being interviewed. I think he's innocent.

That poor man was absolutely let down by his ‘representation’ in the original trial. I agree with Mike - Mark Carver didn’t do this, and the fact that they wasted investigation time, and Mark’s time, on this means they may never actually catch the person or find the true answer. This is a sad story.

This poor poor guys. I would bet the lot he’s innocent. I cannot stand small town POlice! And I heard a girl say it was re-election time. Figures.. seems this guy was a patsy because there wasn’t anyone else to point the finger at and they needed suspects to look like they were “on top of there jobs” so to speak. The other guy was so worried it caused a heart attack. It’s just sad that most put faith in the justice system that the TRUTH WILL OUT. Not the case at all. Wise up my friends. Mike thank you agin for a GREAT video. Early LoL but great! Be safe be well brother and I’ll be waiting on the next one.

My gut says he’s innocent based on what was presented here. His defense was a sham. Once juries hear DNA, that’s the end of it. We need to hold prosecutors/experts accountable for how they present scientific evidence.

Yes i too think Mark Carver is innocent. Mark looks like a kind innocent guy and I really don't think he did anything. I am leaning maybe just maybe towards the cousin since i haven't seen him interviewed or talking plus when he saw the case in the newspaper he had a heart attack right after i think which sounds off and lastly maybe since they were both fishing only the cousin killed the girl which would explain the touch Dna but the question is why but it's all just speculation i really hope this case gets solved there's no reason why it shouldn't with the advancement of forensic science today.

Kinda just disgusting, it's stunning how commonly the police are willing to jump on the first scapegoat that wanders into their view, ruining peoples' lives for their own pride and to save face when they have absolutely nothing.
As someone with similar hand/wrist issues this is kinda laughable, I can barely play an instrument let alone pull knots tight enough to choke someone out.

I think Mike Carver is innocent. His demeanor and the fact he has a very low iq make it difficult to say he could’ve done it. If he has horrible carpal tunnel syndrome he wouldn’t be able to strangle anyone also his defense sucked and just didn’t defend him as is their job. The whole situation is tragic and I hope the case will get resolved.
