The Disturbing Case of Cosmo DiNardo

The Disturbing Case of Cosmo DiNardo

Comments

Same here!

Beth Buchanan

Such a waste of two lives. He sounds intelligent, but certainly didn't act that way. Sad story.

Beth Buchanan

You found a case I’d never heard of!?!? Incomprehensible

Mary D

Oof. Tragic. This one kind of reminds me of Dellen Millard and Mark Smitch. Spoilt rich kid with a screw loose and his shitty companion.

Rachael C

Yes. Oh my! My thoughts too.

Squirrel

I can’t believe you were not first! What is going on in this world! 🤣💕💕💕💕

Squirrel

OMG. This was a doozy! I felt soooo terrible for the 3rd guy who was shot in the spine. A then run.....well you know. I live near DC and I had never heard of this case. Yes it’s far, but not that far! That DiNardo was a guy with a million faces. His look changed so often. I’m couldn’t get past the picture of the shaven of widows peak. Ugh. Terrible story. Not your story of work Mike. Just tragedy. On a lighter note, will you show us where you film in your house and how you make it look black for the next Q & A? Will you sell me your cute little tin hat on eBay? I’ll pay for shipping! 💕💕💕

Squirrel

Yes, west coast of the US. And I have bad insomnia so I'm often awake until 4 or 5 AM.

J Woods

I'm guessing you're US?

Lauren Mac as 'Vegemite Sandwich'

Thank you, Desiree. You're a sweetheart 💕

Lauren Mac as 'Vegemite Sandwich'

I hope you are finding happiness, sometimes you have to dig and hunt for it ..but it is there.

Soffity

I'm just all kinds of heartbroken. 💔 This is such a tragic story. 😢 I can't stand how the paralyzed boy was killed. All of those young lives ruined. Those poor parents.

Sash Johnson

So I just rewatched your video on the future of serial killers, and I was wondering if you think the shit fire of a year this is could be a catalyst in the making of a serial killer. You spoke about the market crashing and a spike of serial killers in 2030. Do you think 2020 could cause a spike?

Joycee

This is why they say smoking marijuana is a gateway for teens to do more dangerous things like get crushed to death by an excavator.

Taco John

I hope you're doing well now. ❤️

J Woods

IMO the mother was a crazy religious fanatic who did more harm than good.

J Woods

It happens more often than not, you just don't hear about those cases bacause they aren't newsworthy. I heard about a case last week where the guy had gone missing as a teenager and was missing for over 40 years. Apparently he fell into drugs and when he cleaned up and tried to contact his family about 15 years later he couldn't find them. He was poor, his family was poor, so they didn't have the resources to hire private detectives to find each other. His sister was happy to finally hear from him. I myself reported my ex-husband missing about 5 years ago. Turned out he was safe and had checked himself into a hospital in another city. Took about a week to find him. Cops did nothing, they literally called the one public hospital in my city and that was it.

J Woods

omg I used to live not far from this area o.O

Jenny Enochs

I lost my gun rights after a suicide attempt and cases like this always boil my blood. Anyone with mental illness should never have access to guns. It's just too dangerous and mental illness is incredibly unpredictable.

TinyMeowMix

I wonder about this too. On one hand we understand that the if a missing person doesn't show up with 48 hours, it could mean something bad, and that prospect worsens as time passes, yet on the other hand the authorities won't mobilize and start working a case until a certain amount of time goes by. So, they will start working a case already behind. I get it though, that the police say the majority of people do show up and adults can take off if they want. It's a dichotomy.

Susan L. Prince

A few thoughts: -As a former suburban teenager buying weed off of sketchy dealers, as have millions of teenagers, this is brutal. I'm sure they had some sense that he was volatile, but likely knew nothing close to the full extent. But, never go to a second location -Pretty surprising that there's no paper trail for involuntary admissions to psych wards -There are sadly innumerable cases in which either a perpetrator or victim had their circumstances set up by falling through the cracks in "the system", but I'm just not sure this is a great example of that Also, lots of other interesting details in this feature article, including that Cosmo's mother brought in a Catholic priest to try to exorcise him (and also believed their house was built on a Native American burial ground) https://www.phillymag.com/news/2020/02/25/cosmo-dinardo/

gethaunted

Man what a fucking fat piece of shit this cosmo was. Tryin to keep his widows peak shaved. His brain is broken. Hope someone sticks something in his fanny whilst he’s in the calaboose! Great video mike! Always a great day when you post up!

Christopher Moore

As soon as I saw Mike posted I looked at the comments to see if you were first. Big sigh and disappointment. Being at the top can be a challenge. Gird those loins.

Soffity

Damn. Cosmo’s parents really fucked up. That guy had serious problems. Those poor boys and their families. Damn.

Rosemary R.

Ran over with a backhoe, thats an awful way to go.

Linderman Edgewater

Mental illness does NOT excuse or justify murder. Psychopathy can be argued as being brain damage/defect, but yet, we still hold these people accountable for their actions. He knew that what he was doing was wrong, he tried to cover it up, this shows that he can still think straight to some degree. What the damage to the frontal lobe would have done is make him more impulsive, cause personality changes, lower self-control, etc. STILL doesn't make him not responsible for the murders. I'm not sure the system failed him, what could have the system really done? Perhaps the parents could have paid closer attention and not ignore red flags. When you see an escalation in behavior, you can try to ignore it or brush it under the rug all you want, it will lead to more and more. Not even sure the parents could have done anything, because he would have to voluntarily seek help himself. This is just a tragedy altogether, but he is where he belongs. He is a danger to society. I think my question is, how did his neighbors not think it's suspicious to use a backhoe in all hours of the night? They didn't hear any shots? Why was Cosmo worried about one of the boys yelling and being heard by neighbors, but he wasn't worried about them hearing so many gunshots all through one day? It's incredible. And why did Cosmo have so much freedom to roam around on that property and driving around, at all hours of the day and night, his parents knowing he has mental illness and behavioral problems? I see a lot more issues than the "system" failing him tbh. P.S.: Him crying at the end during his confession how he ruined his life for nothing. What a narcissist. Only caring about what's going to happen to him. He feels zero remorse and empathy for the victims and lives he snuffed for nothing. Disgusting.

Luiza

Thanks very much again Mike. Sensitively delivered.

Me

Lol finally a case from my state! 🙌😝🤣❤️

Sarah DeMatteo

I was watching a crime show last night about him and what he did.

Eddie Glass

Thanks Mike!

Peri Jetton

I wonder what the statistics are of people reporting someone missing and then the missing person shows up. I am familiar with the 48 hour model. I understand that in most cases, the authorities can't take immediate action due to current workload, but there is a timeframe when one can technically be considered missing, and after that timeframe authorities immediately react to it. It seems that a majority of cases the authorities initially respond by staying, 'They'll probably come back'.

James A Patterson

😊✌

Juril Ducusin

This posted at 2am for me. I wonder what time it is there. Thank you Mike! Great way to start my day.

Juril Ducusin

I don't disagree with your that there was a failure in the system. But in practical terms apparently 20% of all teenagers in the US suffer from mental illness. and up to 40% of teens have criminal records of some kind (https://abcnews.go.com/Health/arrests-increasing-us-youth/story?id=15180222) and yet many of these teens go on to be hi tech CEOs and lawyers and television producers without ever committing heinous crimes that (they can be arrested for lol).

dougie

Another person not treated for mental illness distroyed many lives as well as his own. This is so sad in so many ways.

Cathi Kitchener

I’m from Northeast PA and vividly remember this. Thanks for covering this one. I learned a lot more than I already knew. Have a great week Mike!

Nicole Rubertelli

This happened just a couple of months after I moved here - it was really startling and heartbreaking. Thank you for doing such a thorough and thoughtful video on it!.

Amy B

First encounter with Cosmo it seemed to me that he was cold, unrepentant and extremely focused on himself. When you work in that environment you get these feelings when someone wants to use you so you’ll bring stuff in for them, they’ll lay on the compliments and inflate your ego, definitely got that from DiNardo. Kratz always seemed the useful idiot to me.

Turtle Squirts

I never cease to be amazed at what human beings will do to one another.

Angela Mott

Great video, as always! Thank you Mike!

ScaryPoppins

Anyone keep hearing “Bernardo”? 😳 This is so tragic...

AlexPeaks

Thanks Mike

Jane Pohl

Alicia Hoverson

I hope you feel better soon. :(

ScaryPoppins

Mike knows how to make a miserable Monday good again x

Kelly Myring

Yes, it was! Worth losing sleep for.

J Woods

What a tragic loss those families endured. Cosmo really should’ve been watched closer. I’m glad he got four life sentences and the cousin got life as well. Great video Mike, thank you for posting.

Rose Tyler

It's a good one!

Lauren Mac as 'Vegemite Sandwich'

Shit, it's 3.38 am and now I'll be up another half hour. Can't wait to watch.

J Woods

Super glad you just posted - I've got the flu, and was tested (again) for the dreaded 'rona 😷. It's 9.21pm on Monday here, so a dose of TC before bed is all I need... #MikeIsTheBest

Lauren Mac as 'Vegemite Sandwich'

Jaysus, lads, I bet his folks were pissed off about that hundred grand.

Catherine DeWitt

What a senseless waste of young life! Thank you for putting such a thoughtful twist on so horrific a crime.

Thalia Brown

The poor families having to hear about these senseless deaths. Horrible.

Sahramon

Please tell us more!

Catherine DeWitt

Holy shit thats insane! What were they like?

That Chapter

This one hits a bit close to home. I know both DiNardo and Kratz. I worked at the prison that they went to when they got arrested. Kratz was housed on my module for almost a year.

Turtle Squirts

Thats ok. Don't let it happen again

That Chapter
