While I enjoy Magic, I also play other games, including drafting card games like 7 Wonders and Sushi Go. I feel both of these games hammer home the lesson of not being in the colours of those around you. Are they any other non-Magic games that you two enjoy that you think have lessons to teach the limited player?

2016-09-22 18:38:27 +0000 UTCMarshall and LSV, Thanks for putting on a great show! Have you ever changed something about your daily routine (besides drafting more!) because you felt it helped you perform better when it comes to Magic? Do you do anything differently before a tournament?

2016-09-20 15:17:21 +0000 UTCWith LSV now doing coverage, I'm interested in what you guys think as both players and commentators about the pros drafting digitally then receiving the physical cards to play with during PT drafts. The interface doesn't have to be mtgo, for instance it could still hide the picked cards between packs etc. I think this would make it easier for us at home to follow the draft AND allow us to watch deck building, something that currently doesn't happen in front of the cameras.

2016-09-06 03:59:28 +0000 UTCHi Marshall and Luis! With the announcement of draft leagues on MTGO, I have seen a lot of complaints about "cross-pod" pairings for drafts. My LGS does this regularly as well. I know cross-pod pairing is not ideal, but is it really a cause for concern? Are the power levels for decks that different across pods? Lastly, if you know there are cross-pod pairings, does it affect how you draft or play in any way? P.S. love the show, keep up the great work!

2016-08-24 20:28:02 +0000 UTCHey Guys! I just got the card in the mail and it is awesome, thank you very much. We have Conspiracy: Take the Crown just around the corner and that leads me to my question: Does a more casual draft format like Conspiracy excite you at all? I really liked the last one and I can't wait for the second one to come out. Anyway thank you very much for all the amazing content you bring us every week!

2016-08-17 19:44:49 +0000 UTCHey Guys, I was wondering if the new two-block format changes how you think about drafting a set like Eldritch Moon, where most of the synergy cards you need for a deck like the Emerge deck all come in the first two packs. Specifically, would you be willing to "force" a deck like Emerge, taking whatever green and blue cards you can get in pack one (even if one or both colors are being cut to your right) knowing that you'll get the whole second pack of Eldritch Moon to draft the key cards for your deck, since no one to your left will be seeing any Green or Blue cards in pack one (and therefore presumably not drafting Blue or Green in pack two)? Normally you're trying to reap the rewards in pack 3 by finding which colors are open, but in a synergy format where the most important cards for your deck are all in Eldritch Moon, maybe you care more about the second pack? Thanks for a great podcast!

2016-08-08 19:20:26 +0000 UTCHey guys. First I want to congratulate Luis on his third straight Top 8, really incredible and was rooting for you all the way to take it down. It can't be a coincidence that the Top 8 had LSV and his two substitute set reviewers in Owen & Reid all there... Anyway, what I wanted to ask is: after listening to the Pro Tour testing show earlier today and after having done 4 live drafts this past weekend I seem to be ending up in less desirable color pairs in this format (B/W, B/R, U/W) a lot. I feel like I'm drafting what is open for the most part and the decks are doing reasonably well, but how much should you weigh being in one of the best color pairs as opposed to drafting your seat? How much does this answer change format to format? Thanks for all you guys do for the game, the podcasts, content, and commentary have all made the game far more enjoyable for me to follow as well as play.

2016-08-08 04:24:34 +0000 UTCI actually have asked this question and they said "practice drafting." I suck at both so in a way it's irrelevant...

2016-08-05 18:29:10 +0000 UTCThat is funny, isn't it? If you told people you were really into poker, nobody would bat an eye...

2016-08-05 18:23:18 +0000 UTCWhat stops Marshall from being an "elite" player to te degree that LSV (ego check) is? It it just a prioritization of time? If this question isn't the "yoko ono" of this podcast, I don't know what is...

2016-08-05 18:20:54 +0000 UTCHow do you adjust your tactics when drafting with and playing against less skillful/more casual drafters? FNM at my local shop is very low-key, and there are many new drafters around. This means that certain signals, such as deceptively powerful commons wheeling, might mean very little, and someone could be in one of your colors without you noticing because strong cards are still making it to you. What else should you watch out for when facing opponents who aren't as invested in competitive limited play, and how do you make sure the veteran comes out on top as much as they should?

2016-08-02 04:40:37 +0000 UTCHere is an interesting one to discuss. Some friends of mine and I were discussing some ways to get better at limited. We posed the following question: If you could only focus on one (1) area for a month, either focusing on the actual draft process or solely on game play, which would be more efficient and yield better results? This is assuming that it's a new set and most people are not very familiar with it. There was some great discussion on how if you become better at the actual play, it wouldn't matter what you drafted because even if it was a pile of garbage, more often than not, you could pull off a win. Others said, if you focused on making a great deck first, the play would follow. What are your thoughts?

2016-07-07 21:00:55 +0000 UTCHi Samuel. As a new fellow patreon, I think, I can relate to your problem, playing magic a bit more seriously only since about a year. Sometimes I got really mad losing to people that were outright arrogant. My main advice would be to openly and clearly communicate, that you are a novice and would love to get feedback, on what you could have done better. A lot of people have a big ego out there. So the very same people could be dwelling on a teacher instead of bullying you, if you use that ego right ;-) And also there are a lot of good apples, that are sometimes just too lazy to write much in the chat, but will be kind enough to deliver some positive feedback, being asked like that. Hope it helps a little.

2016-07-05 17:44:31 +0000 UTCAny chance you could get Jon Finkel to come on the show as a guest? I'd love to hear about how he approaches Limited Magic.

2016-06-24 14:16:37 +0000 UTCHey guys! Lately, I've been having a hard time dealing with the "bad apples" of Magic. Particularly on MTGO, players are so often insulting, mocking, or downright mean that it can make the game unenjoyable. I'm still relatively new to Magic; I try to practice a lot and learn from my mistakes, but doing so can be discouraging when other, more experienced players seem so hellbent on letting me know how bad I am. Any advice on not letting this affect my motivation to improve would be much appreciated. I don't want to let a handful of bullies affect my love for the game. Thanks for all you guys do, I truly appreciate it!

2016-06-23 10:28:19 +0000 UTCHey guys, not sure if I can recall this being addressed on the show or not- but... I started playing magic when I was about 11 and played heavily until I was about 16. I took a break then and just got back into it about 2 years ago (and I found your podcast which has been so helpful for me!). So my question is, now I'm 28 and I just graduated medical school but I have almost a shame about my love for MTG. I feel like a lot of my peers won't understand how awesome this game is and how much I enjoy playing it. How can I overcome this anxiety about sharing one of my favorite hobbies with people? I'm not really a shy person with anything else in my life, but sometimes I feel like MTG is a dirty secret.

2016-06-23 04:35:48 +0000 UTCMarshall and LSV, love the show and the banter between you is a pleasure to listen too, you are both very funny and can't wait to meet you at a local event (Bay area CA) What number pick is the breaking point in which you need to decide on what your doing with your draft deck? I seem to have a huge problem with marrying my first pick :(

2016-06-22 23:31:52 +0000 UTCI'm working on getting better at drafting true aggro decks, but am still always worried about the board getting crowded and watching my strategy implode. I think I'm drafting a good curve from a creature standpoint; is it likely that I don't have enough tricks and removal? Or is it more likely that I'm not drafting enough cards that give me reach? Or is just that aggro is a pretty risky strategy in SOI?

2016-06-22 20:44:55 +0000 UTCPlay first or draw? On game 1, most players choose to play first. Is this the correct choice? If you have a control or splash a third color rather heavily, or have many double colored cards, should you draw first? For game 2 and 3, does it change depending on whether your deck is more or less aggro than your opponents? Does it change depending on the relative speed of the set?

2016-06-22 16:31:23 +0000 UTCHey Marshall and Luis! I've been listening for about 18 months and I've been wondering about mulligans. It seems like sometimes when I look at my opening seven I might wind up either taking too big of a risk in keeping the hand or I'd wind up throwing away a hand that might have been perfectly serviceable. My question is: what goes through your heads when looking at an opening hand to determine whether to keep what you have or to toss it back. Thank you so much!

2016-06-22 15:17:04 +0000 UTCHey guys, when it comes to deck building whether it's sealed or constructed, how do you recognize a card that has "build-around" value vs. just a good card? I'm still having trouble differentiating between the two and I'm sure my decks are suffering because I think a card is one I should build around but either its impact just isn't there or I don't have the cards to support it (more so in sealed). Thank you.

2016-06-22 14:08:19 +0000 UTCHey Marshall and Luis! I have been faithfully supporting and listening to the show for just over a year now and I want to know: what is the difference between "next-leveling" someone and Fancy Play Syndrome? There have been several times where I've heard people in my local game store talking about next leveling someone, but to me it just sounds like they're trying to be cute and manage to get away with it. Thanks for everything you do!

2016-06-22 13:01:09 +0000 UTCHow do I get girls to like me? :(

2016-06-22 12:36:35 +0000 UTCHi. I'm from Argentina a country that limits with Chile, where Luis' mother come from. Simply question: how do I play fast at mtgo? I almost always lose for lack of time. What can I do to improve my time? Great show! The sinergy between you two it is amazing!!!

2016-06-22 12:13:11 +0000 UTCCan you do a segment or section on "Top 10 signs your opponent is in trouble"? Also maybe courses of action when you see each sign (pick up the pace, change your plan, use that removal spell you've been holding onto, etc). It's always interesting to think both about body language when playing in paper or when someone misses a lands drop on MtGO.

2016-06-22 11:09:20 +0000 UTCHi guys! Having seen Marshall interact on the CSL and how LSV acts practically everywhere. What do you think is the appropriate level of humor in matches and at how does that change between each level of play (casual to professional)? To what extent should we as players limit our humor when playing given that we are hopefully having fun?

2016-06-22 09:30:41 +0000 UTCHi Guys! I've got a MTGO finance question. I've just started playing online and to be honest the price of an online draft feels pretty daunting. What are the tricks to bring that price down and what do you think is a good average draft price for a new MTGO player?
Valtteri Kostianen
2016-06-22 07:15:54 +0000 UTCLSV, judging from your performance in this past week of the VSL you are certainly a master of "Balance", so I have to ask as a new father myself, how are you going to balance new baby vs. magic and other endeavors?
Joel Tucci
2016-06-22 06:28:16 +0000 UTCHi guys! Eternal Masters has two weeks left on MTGO and you now have experience with the format. Which color pairs/strategies are you playing, which ended up being duds, and which are considered best? A quick update would be super helpful for those of us who don't have time to learn the format on our own before it disappears. Thanks!

2016-06-22 06:06:05 +0000 UTCHi Marshall and LSV, I'm having trouble making mulligan decisions in Limited. In Constructed, I get a sense of which hands are keepable or which I need to send back as you gain more familiarity with your deck, but I find these decisions harder to make in Limited...because I don't know the deck well. Could you help with some rules of thumb?
Saralyn McKinnon-Crowley
2016-06-22 05:23:42 +0000 UTCHi Marshall, you are considered to be one of the best MTG commentators, and you are personally my favourite podcaster. You've managed to consistently attract terrific co-hosts, and entertain us weekly for years. My question is, what were your podcasting - or perhaps more generally broadcasting - level-ups? Was it only hard work, or have you had some breakthrough ideas that helped you to work smarter at this too?
Andy Skinner
2016-06-22 05:10:00 +0000 UTCHello Marshall and LSV, I'm new to the game of Magic, coming from Pokemon and Kaijudo, and so far I'm loving limited. My biggest problem I'm finding is how to structure my turns and remembering the different phases, more specifically the 2nd Main Phase and when to play items on an opponents turn (mostly foreign concepts in my previous games). I guess my question is, as someone who's having trouble adapting to the games turn structure and mostly new concepts how can one better manage their turns and focus better on an opponents turn. Hopefully that makes sense!
