Questions for Special Guest Paulo Vitor Damo Da Rosa

Hey All,

We are having Paulo on the show as a guest this week! He's one of the best players of all time, and also has some pretty strong opinions on Kaladesh Limited.

The show will be roughtly broken up into two parts: 1. We'll talk Kaladesh Limited with Paulo. We like to get differing perspectives on the show, and Paulo has a lot to say. 2. A more general interview, where we can talk about his approach to Magic and gaming, or even questions about Paulo you've just always wondered about.

Feel free to ask questions about either one, and I'll select a few to augment the ones I've come up with for him.

Thanks as always!

Marshall

Hey Paulo, not really a kaladesh specific question but I was wondering what are the hardest cards to evaluate for you or what cards you went back and forth on the most. Like lunarch mantle or blood mist.

Hi Paulo and fellas, I find myself constantly avoiding aggro because I can rarely seem to make it work, set to set. Fundamentally, it feels like I am missing something. I'll empty my hand too soon (or too late), use removal too soon (or too late) and don't easily recognize the subsurface value in aggro specific cards. Even if it's being passed to me, I'll find a reason to avoid it because I'm so much more confident in mid-range and control which limits my potential in a given draft. Any tips are much appreciated.

Paulo: Do you think being one of the younger players on the Pro Tour has been an advantage or disadvantage for you? Do you find yourself approaching the game differently than some of your older peers?

Hello Paulo, Thanks for coming on the show! In your recent article on Kaladesh limited you stated that blue is awful, I was wondering if you can elaborate on that? Additionally, despite you feeling that it is awful what factors or specific cards would it take to pull you into blue? Is it at most a splash color? Or can a good blue deck be drafted? Also, it would be great if you could comment on the speed of the format. As a somewhat new player, started playing when magic origins came out and didn't start drafting until BFZ, this format feels like the fastest I've played. It feels as if you are typically rewarded for drafting a deck on the aggro end of the spectrum. Would you say this is a valid assessment? Thanks!

How many lands are you typically playing in Kaladesh? With few mana sinks and a fair amount of incidental scry/draw I've been erring on the low side, starting at 16 rather than the 17 that's been the default for the last several sets.

Hi, Paulo. How do you maintain focus and readiness during long tournaments? How can we improve in that area? Um abraço, Celso Távora.

Paulo, how are you year in and year out the most adorable Magic pro?

What are the top lessons you have taken from bridge to make you a better MTG player? What are some hallmarks of a limited format you enjoy?
