Limited Resources Depth Check 2

I'm posting this for patrons only for a day or two before I make it public again, and again if you have any feedback I'll be glad to hear it. I wasn't able to keep this one at the 30 min mark, and I'm exploring the idea of giving myself a little more time to play with.

I learned a lot from making this one, and am starting to hone in much better on the vision and process for these. Finding the balance between going super deep and still telling the story of a draft is the main challenge, but we're getting there.

Again, I'd appreciate it if you kept this patrons only for the time being, as I like being able to show you first since you are the one making this possible, and then I'll send it out to the rest of the Magic world tomorrow or the next day.

Thanks!

Marshall

Very cool, i liked the part about keeping 2 lands vs mulligan, and the percentages. Please make more videos like this, some of us need lots of help ;)

I love the concept of the 'Draft Clippy' commenting on your choices during the draft. Maybe it's Elmer?

David

This is great Marshall. Awesome deck too. :) really enjoy hearing about the plays in retrospect.

Will Curley

I know Im a little late to the party, but this is awesome!! Really nice job Marshall. You trimmed it down and really solidified the concept! My favorite part was going deep with keeping the 2 land hand VS mull. Very nice work! Can't wait for you to go deep with SOI. Give us a CLUE!

Dana Billings

I love this. I normally can't justify spending an hour+ watching a video, but this is perfect. My patreon support is already paying dividends.

Chris Moyer

Great Content Marshall! Love all the pop-ups and post production work you put into it. I learned a lot watching this one, and I think most players could. The length is perfect! Now I can watch a draft video in one sitting instead of four or more.

Tyler Barr

Played around with the Hypergeometric Calculator, good stuff. I probably should have mulliganed a few more times at the pre-release this weekend.

Ruthi

Love this format. Much easier to make time for and really like the post game review and commentary rather than the in game, adds something, almost echo's the old uber long Ryan draft reviews... but way shorter..

Tomas Dryburgh

The Mulligan breakdown was fantastic, as well as the emoticons and over-all tempo. Thank You

Elijah Loeffel

This is where the hypergeometric calculator he mentioned comes into play. The math is a little hairy, but fortunately there are several calculators online. All you have to do is plug in the size of the population (number of cards left in the deck), number of successes in the population (the number of lands left in the deck), the size of the sample (how many cards you're going to draw), and the number of successes in the sample (the number of lands you hope to draw). I used this calculator I found via a google search: <a href="https://www.geneprof.org/GeneProf/tools/hypergeometric.jsp" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.geneprof.org/GeneProf/tools/hypergeometric.jsp</a> So on a two land hand, on the draw, by turn 5 you expect to draw 2 or more lands 77% of the time.

These annotations! ^^

Terrific video! I love how you've concentrated the valuable parts of your draft and matches.

Josh L

I like the pace of the video it doesn't go too fast, and taking time to pause so you can explain things like "outs" is really informative. Nice work. I think these videos are really great. Can't wait to see more.

TIM SALUZZO

I'm the least comfortable deciding when to mull and when to keep, so I really appreciated the deep dive on that. Thanks!

Stephen Duane

This one was really fun. The annotations really kept me in the draft. Well worth the extra 16 minutes over your target. Keep these up!

John de Jong

Oh man that was great! Loved the little touches during the draft, they added a nice little touch while keeping you "in the moment" of the draft. Also, I loved loved loved the mulligan depth check. Maybe it's because I've never looked at the statistics like that before, but that was really enlightening. Would love to see more like that (like, what is your percentage to hit land 4 by turn 5 on the draw?).

Seth Fellenstein

Really enjoyed this one, thanks Marshall. These videos are a great idea.

Brian Moriarty

Great games! to bad the forerunner seemed to be glue to the opponent's hand 😐 I felt you were a little bit low on creatures, however, it was a sweet deck!

Leonardo Rodriguez Baca

This one was really enjoyable. Deck was great, especially in round 2. There was some good learning in the mulligan math. Keep it up!
