Episode 4-for-1 Ideas
Added 2018-05-14 23:18:57 +0000 UTCHey All,
Luis and I were going over ideas for episode 441 but I wanted to see what you thought. We have basically booked Ryan, Jon, and Brian to come on at different times (all of us at once isn't feasible nor is it a good idea I think).
Right now we have some questions lined up for each of them, and we'll likely be doing a special Let's Stump Vargas with each of them and Luis.
We'll also being doing a bevy of "four" related content like top 4s for a bunch of things.
I wanted to throw it to you all to see if there were any ideas you had on what we should do for this special episode too. I mean, you all are our most loyal and awesome listeners, you have to have ideas, right? Right?? :)
Fire away with any ideas and I'll bounce them off of Luis in our email leading up to the episode :)
THANK YOU!
Marshall

2018-05-17 01:59:09 +0000 UTCWe need topics based on the classic 4-for-1 cards: -- 1.) Tidings - each former co-host updates the audience with what's going on in their life. -- 2.) Opportunity - biggest blowout you ever dealt an opponent -- 3.) Cruel Bargain - worst blowout ever experienced playing Magic -- 4.) Breakthrough - when did you first understand card advantage? -- 5.) Meditate - current perspective on the Limited format of Dominaria

2018-05-16 15:15:50 +0000 UTCI think 4 crack-a-packs *and* four sign-offs might be a bit much in terms of time investment. But if they could fit in one or the other that would be sweet.

2018-05-16 08:53:41 +0000 UTCI'd like to hear if anyone has a 4-color deck they've played and they remember being strong. Also, was there ever a 4-color archetype in limited formats of yore?

2018-05-15 17:20:05 +0000 UTCLively discussion to be had around what counts as a 4-for-1? Obviously sweepers 'could' be a 4-for-1, but you need the right board state for that to be true. Really any sweeper is just an X-for-X. Similarly, even cards as broken as Tetzimoc are capable of being 4-for-1s, but really are still X-for-1s that require the right board state. How many PURE 4-for-1s are there really? You always have to get four cards exactly, only cost yourself one, and be able to do this regardless of board state? Hat tip to Shane Garvey for pointing out Meditate. This would meet that threshold unless you factor in skipping a turn and costing yourself a draw step? I mean, how many of these cards are there really?

2018-05-15 07:31:59 +0000 UTCI guess I assumed Marshall would be ready to finally leave his emotionally abusive co-host, but I suppose Brian coming back would allow Luis to quit having to actually work for an hour a week. He already called in sick on a set review...
