P1P1 from a draft I did

I had this pick in a draft. I threw it up on Twitter have gotten a lot of different answers, what is your take?

I think people who have bad experiences with helm might have been too greedy. A parade of 2/3s or 2/2 life links will stabilise and win a game. Helm IS the top end, don't just do nothing and expect to start copying Angels and Sphinxes one day.

2018-05-25 00:25:46 +0000 UTCWith my experience with the format, the amount of games in which Helm is not a great card is high enough that Icy's consistent greatness beats it out. Judging by these comments, helm seems a bit overrated, actually.

2018-05-18 01:37:54 +0000 UTCI've beaten helm by tempoing a player out before when they tried to equip and once recently by using In Bolas' Clutches on it, but if the opponent doesn't have just the right set-up against helm then they just lose. Against Icy they can slog through it eventually and if they eventually find artifact removal they're no worse off, while against helm they probably still lose to the advantage already gained by the helm.

2018-05-17 14:59:50 +0000 UTCIf you're behind, icy is much better. Helm far more powerful and wins games on the spot.. but I've lost with it on the BF unable to equip whereas icy has brought me back from near death more than a few times.

2018-05-16 18:45:13 +0000 UTCI think William Barley’s comment has a lot of weight to it, actually. Well said.

2018-05-16 18:11:47 +0000 UTCMY first thought was icy manipulator because its so good and helms equip cost is very high, but helm does give you the copy with haste immediately that turn

2018-05-16 16:45:20 +0000 UTCHelm for me, too. This format is so much about having single high powered cards that win you the game, and helm is one of those cards. Icy is amazing as a removal/tempo/control piece, but its capacity to actually WIN the game is more contingent upon the rest of your deck and the cards your opponent has committed to the field.

2018-05-16 15:54:27 +0000 UTCTo the Helm, Captain!

2018-05-16 15:44:28 +0000 UTCIn the arena, Helm > Icy. Still makes a copy when tapped.

2018-05-16 15:32:56 +0000 UTCI think this is one of those with no wrong answer. If I had this choice 10 times, I'd probably take each one 5 times. Voted for Icy this time, but if you asked me again tomorrow...

2018-05-16 15:11:06 +0000 UTCEverything I am wants to take helm, but I voted for icy. Good 100% of the time, in all “quadrants” of quadrant theory. Helm is clearly more powerful, but requires a creature in play.

2018-05-16 13:52:49 +0000 UTCI have a hard time seeing an argument for Icy over Helm in this format, Icy is great, but Helm is game warping in a way few cards in this format can be.

2018-05-16 13:48:14 +0000 UTCEasy choice... put them in an arena, Helm wins!!!

2018-05-16 13:36:51 +0000 UTCAnswered on Twitter but will answer the same here: easy Helm

2018-05-16 10:53:59 +0000 UTCHelm has won me games I’ve had no business winning. Card is super powerful.

2018-05-16 10:20:38 +0000 UTCSame as on twitter. Helm is just so broken and icy is great, but I don't think it's close!

2018-05-16 08:53:41 +0000 UTCPut 'em in the arena, right? In all seriousness why take an answer when you can make them have to have one?

2018-05-16 08:47:58 +0000 UTCHelm is a bomb (and one of the better bombs in the format no less). I would always pick a good bomb over a good removal p1p1.

2018-05-16 08:42:51 +0000 UTCHelm is obviously the most fun pick ^_^

2018-05-16 08:42:22 +0000 UTCFirst to vote for helm. Good luck tapping down all my copies! :)
