I'm with Marshall on not liking Lay Bare the Heart. I'm never happy to play this type of effect, even less so when there's graveyard value in the format.

Scaled behemoths for the win!

I see where I went wrong. I read one of the green cards when it was spoiled and the translation left out the word target. Since the ability of placing the -1/-1 counters is targeted you can sacrifice in response.

Medallion effects are strongest in ramp or slower formats. (From my experience in Cubes. Let's face it, turn two 2-mana mana dork into turn three Monument into turn four six drop ain't too shabby.)

You can sacrifice in response to the ability to transfer on the stack. For various creatures, the removal of the -1/-1 counter is a cost so it doesn't matter if the target is removed.

Listening to your review of the Monuments I found myself wondering when an Emerald Medallion effect is worth playing in limited and was hoping for more discussion around it. It seems like if we apply the vanilla test to the Monuments that they are essentially 3 cmc Medallions for creature only spells. I hear that creatures are a thing in Limited and so at what point is a Medallion playable in Limited? If it cost 2 or 1? On curve it seems like taking a turn to play a 3 cmc medallion would let you play two 3 drops or a 4 drop and a 2 drop the following turn and then later in the game it lets you play your top end creatures ahead of the curve. Is it because it is a bad top deck?

Brian Todd

I may be wrong but I don't think you can sacrifice Oashra in response to a lethal amount of -1/-1 counters being placed on it. You can however use it like a mana dork a couple of times until it is a 0/1 and then sacrifice it.

Brian Todd

I think the purpose of "Oashra Cultivator" was missed. I see playing the Cultivator then dumping -1/-1 counters onto her then sacrificing her in response. Which is kind of what green is doing. (At least that was my first thought about the card.)
