Sacrificing creatures for value comes up more often than it seems it would, but when you combine these two abilities it can act as an absolute brick wall on the ground, not to mention the synergies with Afterlife!

I agree with you, and to possibly elaborate, I think the playability of this card will come down to what kind of game plan orzhov really wants to have. If it's mostly an aggro deck, (which I don't think it will be) I think this card gets worse. If the Orzhov decks vary in terms of game plan like Izzet did, it will probably be a card that fluctuates a ton. Overall though, I like it. It just works so well with stopping attacks on the ground with afterlife being a part of the environment.

2019-01-04 10:07:22 +0000 UTCThis may seem like a little deal, but the {1} in the cost greatly decreases the power level of the card. This is big part of the power of Adanto Vanguard - no mana required. Beyond that, we'll have to see how much in this format players are charging into creatures on the ground and just how much fodder you'll have to throw to this card. Obviously the idea plays well with afterlife. Offensively it's only so threatening.
