Hey all,
Luis was slammed with Mythic Invitational testing this week so we are taking the opportunity to have an all-timer on the show, Huey!
Fire away with your questions for him below :)
Hi, Huey (and Marshall) - I’ve seen my gameplay follow a progression that I think is familiar to many players. When I started I was all about agro. It was an “easy” way to pick up wins over decks that we’re trying to get fancy. As I’ve gotten more experience, I’ve shifted towards control because, as I’ve improved, it’s given me more, well - control - over the game and a chance to feel like I’m using my knowledge and skills to pick up edges and win. Now when I find myself in an agro seat, I feel like I draft a decent deck, but when it comes to gameplay I’m at the mercy of my draws while I turn my creatures sideways and hope I have enough gas. As a seasoned pro, how do you tackle playing agro decks so that you can make the most of your skills and not just depend on luck. Where should I look for those edges that I’m sure I’m still missing? Thanks!
Eric Lynch

Hello LR. Huey, how do you manage your work-life balance? Do you have a partner, family, or your personal needs that often get sacrificed for magic? Or have you mastered the balance? Any tips are appreciated, huge fan!

What's it like living with Owen and Shahar? Do you play paper magic much together, or does all the streaming mean that when the cameras are off you are just hanging out?

Greetings (also) from Las Vegas! My question is for Huey: what was a major level up moment for you with regards to limited? Thank you both.

Dear Marshall and Huey firstly thank you to Marshall for helping me develop into a much stronger magic player than I was when I first listened to the Dragon's Maze set review. My question for Huey is as MtG's resident dabbing expert what drove you into the role of educator of youth culture among your contemporaries?

What was the motivation for you, Owen, and Reed to form the Peach Garden Oath?

Hello Marshall and Huey! Huey, when it’s all said and done and you look back on your career, would you rather be known for being the outstanding player and competitor you are, or one of the greatest sources of inspiration and representation for the LGBT community in magic?

How many hours, roughly, does he take prepare for a tournament? What format has he drafted the most and enjoyed the most, and why?

Hi Marshall and Huey! Huey, what's your most recent level-up moment in limited MTG? Just curious if world-class players like you still experience one of those.

Any tips on how to stay calm and focussed during an important tournament like the World Championship? Do you have any other advice/lessons that you learned from Worlds 2017?

In terms of creating a great limited environment, what is one (or two) mechanics from throughout Magic's history that you would most like to see brought back in an upcoming set in the near future? What did you like about that mechanic?

Hi Huey! Knowing the little we know about War of the Spark, including that each draft will feature at least 24 planeswalkers, what is 1 prediction you have for how the format will be balanced to avoid limited matches becoming a race to see who can get a planeswalker into play first? What is one concern you have about a set with 36 walkers?

Another question: when the draft goes PRETTY insane in your favor and you finish it with 30+ good cards, what is your thought process to make the cuts? Let’s say you’re at Rakdos, and should have a creature heavy deck but you managed to draft 6 good removals, 3 good tricks and 3 I’ll-Gotten Inheritance.. what do you do? The same thing for control.. why did you choose to play 6 creature at the Mythic Championship and not 9 or 10? Usually I get to afraid of being runned out by my opponent and I put too many 2-drops on my decks... thanks again and good luck at the Invitational!

Hello Huey and Marshall! My name is Eder, I’m a long time listener from Brazil. After years of practice and study of the limited environment, I’m always trying to follow the limited masters evaluation of the cards mixing with my own. So, when it comes to bordeline build around playables, I always have a hard time to know if I should put them in or not. Some examples: when should I play “Wilderness Reclamation”? 4 goblin gathering and 4 other 1 power creature is enough for Cavalcade of Calamity? Or Kaladeshes “Start your Engines” in a 5 vehicles deck (2 rares). How should I know when I can deviate from the common sense and play these kind of cards? Thanks! (And Team Shelly 4ever!)

What are your favorite draft formats and why? Also, I’ve heard IPA draft was great, but the few times I’ve drafted it online it seemed to mostly be about changing your opponents land types. What am I missing?

Hey guys,
Last time I got a question through I asked if you are playing any games other than magic. Since I already got an answer to that from LSV and Marshall id love to know if Huey plays anything else or lives on a pureley Magic based gaming diet. If anything has changed for you, Marshall, i'd of course also listen to that, but i dont expect any changes :P

The closeness and longevity of the PGO has always intrigued me.
Beyond the camaraderie of hanging out with friends and functional benefits of practicing with other elite players, what do Reid and Owen each individually bring to PGO that is unique and helps you improve as a player? .

You both have achieved a lot of success in Magic, and Magic itself seems more successful and full of hope than ever. But when you think about the future of Magic, or your role in that future, what do you fear most?

Hi, Huey! In what ways would you say the game and the pro scene have improved from when you first played on the PT? What, if anything, do you wish could be brought back? The Magic Invitational? The Masters Series, perhaps? Also, wanted to thank you for speaking with me and my husband at PT Dominaria. You are an inspiration to LGBT players everywhere and it meant a lot just to tell you that in person.

I enjoyed the relaxed, humorous, experimental vibe you two brought to GPLA coverage. I also really enjoyed the Reid Duke Experience™️ at GP Richmond. If you were appointed Coverage Czar for Magic, what’s another coverage experiment you would run?
