Questions From PAX
Added 2019-03-31 21:58:56 +0000 UTCWe had to wait to do the show until tonight BUT that means you get to ask us questions! Anything goes, fire away and we'll get to as many as we can.

How does playing a high scale tournament on an online platform effect the tells via body language and reaction time that exists in paper magic? Are they still present or do the screens muddle the mixture?
Jordan Selesnick
2019-04-01 01:09:24 +0000 UTCHi guys. I'm curious how often the two of you play against one another?
Dan Miller
2019-03-31 23:39:20 +0000 UTCDo you guys have any good April Fools prank stories?

2019-03-31 23:37:09 +0000 UTCI've been playing a lot of Arena drafts, and I love the client but I find myself craving a more real experience drafting against human opponents. I'm considering starting up Magic Online just for limited, how do the two limited environments compare from an economic standpoint, game play, etc? Is it worth it to switch between the two if I'm not already invested in Online? Thank you! :]

2019-03-31 23:17:20 +0000 UTCAgreed! Just to add to that: from a viewer's perspective, seeing MTG on arena is much more fun, but the format seemed to have too much variance, and involving less the player with the audience. Do you feel the same way?
Paul Vidal
2019-03-31 22:58:27 +0000 UTCWhat were the biggest pros and cons to the tournament being on Magic Arena instead of paper magic? Both from a player and a coverage perspective.

2019-03-31 22:51:51 +0000 UTCWould love to hear a postmortem on duo standard, both from LSV as a competitor and Marshal as a commentator. Was it too matchup-dependent? Was it fun to play? Does it seem like it has a future in competitive Magic?
Daniel Schneider
2019-03-31 22:39:00 +0000 UTCIf you were a planeswalker card, what would your ultimate be? (You don’t have to design the whole card unless you’d like to, just curious what a Marshall / LSV ultimate/emblem would look like)

2019-03-31 22:33:57 +0000 UTCFor LSV: Do you think the field of decks would have been more diverse if it was a best of 3 format? Also given the "random" variance of not knowing what decks you were playing first were there any match ups that you were hoping to avoid? For Marshal: the event seemed like a resounding success so do you think this will lead to continued regular coverage down the road and if not what do you think it will take?

2019-03-31 22:32:53 +0000 UTCi just moved to a new city with few accessible game stores. I have a few friends here but I cannot consistently get six people together at once. Can you recommend a good in-person limit format you can play with only a few people? I do sealeds with my friends, but I wonder if you have a better idea. Thanks guys!
Jonathan Montgomery
2019-03-31 22:29:08 +0000 UTCHow do you use the interface in arena to influence your opponent and how does the interface influence your decisions? For example auto passing to represent having nothing or using full control mode to bluff. Thanks for all the great content!

2019-03-31 22:27:36 +0000 UTCShould Savjz have taken Absorb instead of Kaya, Orzhov Usurper on his final Search for Azcanta activation in last game of the semifinal match with Piotr Glogowski?
Jaeger
2019-03-31 22:26:07 +0000 UTCThis one is for LSV because Marshall already answered it. Magic is experiencing a lot of positives - with Arena, PAX, and a great run of sets since Dominaria. If you had one fear about Magic - either as a whole or for you personally - what is it?
Jonathan Montgomery
2019-03-31 22:26:02 +0000 UTCWith the cards revealed today from War of the Spark, it's clear that the whole set is heavily impacted by the prevalence of Planeswalkers. I think that this will work in limited, seeing as it is an isolated system there, but I'm concerned about the impact on standard. Thoughts?

2019-03-31 22:19:57 +0000 UTCWhat was the best food you had over PAX?

2019-03-31 22:19:09 +0000 UTCWith the huge viewing numbers for the Mythic Invitational, do you think this means a slow death for tabletop coverage and tabletop Mythic Championships?
Mark Arucan
2019-03-31 22:17:02 +0000 UTCLong time listener, first time caller. You have talked about the effect of war of the spark’s planeswalker pack on draft, but what about sealed? Do you think that 6 planeswalkers plus rares in the sealed pool could make for a format in which there is a much greater ‘speed gap’ between sealed and draft, and fairly different card evaluations?
Harry
2019-03-31 22:15:21 +0000 UTCMost of us listeners probably draft at their favorite LGSs and we normally crack a booster box for a draft pod. The chance of having duplicate rares in these pods are extremely low. Are there any difference in preparation or other competitor's deck expectation when drafting in big events like GP and Pro tour when the card pools are a lot more randomized? Will be attending GP Bangkok this October and it may be my first ever large event drafting (If it's limited format).
Shanin
2019-03-31 22:13:46 +0000 UTCHow do you feel the duo standard format played out at the mythic championship? It seemed to push more towards extreme aggression and extreme control without any space for midrange decks to shine.
Jonathan Hill
2019-03-31 22:11:55 +0000 UTCDo you think the Best of 1 format worked well? For me watching it seemed that being in the play gave about 20% increase in winning.
Kari Malsom
2019-03-31 22:10:54 +0000 UTCWith the previews of #MTGWAR planeswalkers and all of them having a static ability, do you see this set as being extremely complicated?
Kari Malsom
2019-03-31 22:09:46 +0000 UTCI thought coverage took a huge leap forward this weekend. Well done! I’ve also enjoyed the evolution of draft coverage at PTs/MCs in recent years. I’m curious, after this weekend, how you see draft coverage changing for arena tournaments?
Jamie Katz
2019-03-31 22:06:10 +0000 UTCWhat was both of your honest opinions on the less magic oriented coverage team? And no, LSV, I don't mean Paul and Marshall :P
Ian Salewski
2019-03-31 22:04:53 +0000 UTCNow that you've seen some of the new planeswalkers with a static ability and one or two loyalty abilities, how important do you think being ready to attack planeswalkers in War of the Spark will be?
Mark Conkle
2019-03-31 22:03:27 +0000 UTCFor both of you: If you got to watch the Mythic Invitational, who outside of the MPL (and Luis and Nassif, because HOF) impressed you with their play? Would it be worth it to study any games from the Mythic Invitational?
Nicholas Frega
2019-03-31 22:03:23 +0000 UTCGenius or grifter?: your opponent is about to cast a spell. You hold out a card from your hand as if you were about to counter there spell, but you’re just bluffing and the card you’re holding isn’t really a counter spell. Your opponent pulls back and doesn’t cast the spell. Thanks for the great show.

2019-03-31 22:01:23 +0000 UTCThoughts on the mythic championship bo3-ish format?
