Hi!
Thought I'd show a shot I'm working on at the moment where I have all the main characters walking out of shot in a comical fashion and looking grumpy.
The main issue I encountered with this shot when I approached animating it was that it looked like a lot of work to have so many main characters moving on screen at once. So I decided to animate the walk cycle just once (as seen in the very basic dummy walkcycle in rough sketch form) and then add parts for a body, head and arms.
The body head and arms I would then swap out with different instances of each image group; for example, in the image group for the head I would swap to an instance for each specific character and do the same for the body and arms to match. Having done this I would be left with 6 distinct characters that walk the exact same way for comedic effect.
In this shot the characters have a very slightly more simplified visual appearance with a thicker and more even lineart which helped make the animating easier and kept things looking uniform in their movement.
Will drop some more stuff tomorrow! I am a good chunk through this next cartoon, way over the half way point :)
Cheers!
