This is the thread for the Patreon Question of the Week on the show, so put your questions here and we'll pick one every week to answer. If you've put on in before but we didn't get to it, put it here again, it's not because we didn't like the question we promise :)
Thanks!

Not sure if there is actually any merit to this type of scenario but wanted to ask. Imagine a situation in Dominaria United Limited. I'm on the draw playing a black/x kind of midrange style deck. I have a hand of 3 lands no two drops and some other 3/4/5 mana spells (maybe shouldn't be keeping this type of hand but let's say for sake of argument it was a good keep), the type of hand that would really want more lands. I get to my 3rd turn and haven't yet drawn another land, and instead drew a two drop this turn. I have erie soultender in hand as my turn 3 play. Is there any world where it makes less sense to cast it and instead cast the 2 drop I just drew instead because i am now more likely to mill the lands I am looking to draw next turn with the soultender after not drawing any the first turns of the game? I ask because this came up in a game and I promptly milled 3 lands, didn't draw another and lost handily after stumbling. It seems like results oriented thinking to say it was a mistake to play the soultender but wondering if there is any math to back that up (like I am still just as x% likely to mill lands/nonlands, etc).

2022-10-06 17:28:06 +0000 UTCDMU is the most graveyard-centric draft format we've seen in years, yet there are no graveyard hate cards to be found. What are your thoughts on this from a game design perspective? It seems like an unexpected choice from the designers. Thanks for your takes!

2022-10-02 19:19:55 +0000 UTCI am having such a hard time with this format. During the draft I almost never feel like I am in the right deck, half the time when I do I stop seeing anything supporting it midway through pack two, and then the few instances I've felt like I have had a good deck I've scrubbed out going 0-3 or 1-3. I am sure it is something on my end, but I do not think I have felt this demoralized around a Magic set since I started playing in Champions of Kamigawa. It has killed all desire I have to play the game. Should I just take a break for the rest of the set? Keep bashing my head against the wall until I find something that works? It feels extra bad because so many other people are lauding the set as this super fun, interesting thing that I am just missing out on.

2022-09-28 09:15:25 +0000 UTCWhat logic are you using to decide when to include tapped dual lands to enable kicker on cards that are good unkicked? For example, my WB deck has four removal spells, including one Tribute to Urborg. I drafted two UB tapped duals, but nothing else in the deck touches blue and there aren't domain synergies. Should I include the UB lands? Thanks for your thoughts!

2022-09-25 18:00:11 +0000 UTCHi Luis and Marshal! Any advice about the ratio spells/criatures in the Red Blue deck in Dominaria draft?

2022-09-24 11:08:35 +0000 UTCHey Marshall and Luis. Any thoughts on Maro’s recent comments about limited formats being “solved too quickly”? Not sure if that was a commentary on data or not. Isn’t part of the issue that with more mass access through platforms like Arena the community gets more reps? Also with how sets are designed today it seems they are more on rails making it easier to solve. We know set in and set out the cheap red removal spell is going to be a top common etc.

2022-09-22 22:20:32 +0000 UTCDo you have any favorite approaches for newer players to build good habits around planning their turn? With my 8 year old, he has a good sense of strategy but is easily distracted. We came up with PLASY as our acronym for Plan the turn, Land drop, Attack, cast Spells, and "Your Turn".

2022-09-22 20:12:35 +0000 UTCHello Marshall and Luis! I know you guys have mentioned poker in the past, but are there other classic card games that you guys enjoy?

2022-09-22 20:03:04 +0000 UTCUnfinity has introduced some pretty wild concepts like stickers and attractions. In the past these unset mechanics were silver bordered, but with the change to acorn and non-acorn cards, these mechanics are actually legal in some formats. Do you all feel things are getting too far out there or are these types of design innovations keeping the game fresh? Thank you so much for all that you both do for the magic community and keep up the great work!

2022-09-22 19:20:55 +0000 UTCIf you could run a draft with three packs based in the same multiverse plane, but not necessarily in the same block, what would your three packs be? For instance, what five-color nonsense could go on between Mirage, Invasion, and DMU?

2022-09-22 19:20:19 +0000 UTCHey guys, love the show, it's a highlight of my week. 2 questions: 1) Do you think the long summer gap and disappointment with baldur's gate would have been less of a problem if New Capenna and Neon Dynasty had switched places? Isn't it really just a problem of New Capenna being less replayable? 2) What are your thoughts on Digital-only cards making their way into the Arena Cubes? I really loved the cubes before but I'm not a fan of the digital/rebalanced cards. They still don't feel "real" to me, (much like Un-cards) and I find that their inclusion has soured me a bit on playing cube on Arena. If other people enjoy them, I'm glad they exist but I don't like how they've infiltrated non-Alchemy formats (including Historic Brawl, but that's a question for a different podcast) and made it hard to escape them.

2022-09-22 19:19:16 +0000 UTCMaybe this will be fun: What is the best "C" in each color? Not the best common, not the C pluses, but of the cards that are bread and butter solid C's, which are the best?

2022-09-22 19:16:51 +0000 UTCImagine someone built an add-on to 17lands where two people can enter their decks and sideboards and the winner is determined without actually playing a game, based on probability and the card win rate data. Is this a dark future, or is it amazing as it would mean we could draft more without spending precious time playing games out?

2022-09-22 19:10:34 +0000 UTCHello resources! What is a better feeling. Looking at 5 good spells in your opening hand and then seeing the last two are the lands you need, or looking at 5 lands and then seeing two of your best cards?

2022-09-22 19:10:13 +0000 UTCDo you guys feel that they didn't put enough guaranteed duals in the set? I draft them Aggressively, and was fine until a few weeks in, but now other people are doing so as well, and Im sometimes lucky to get two, even in what seems like an open color pair. Should people react by slimming their colors down to two? Is this a forcing spider spawning situation? And one more question. Should wizards make sure each pack has at least one dual on digital platforms? Thanks.

2022-09-22 19:03:48 +0000 UTCHey guys! This question is for Luis. My wife and I welcomed our first-born into the world last month. It’s been an absolute exhausting blast so far. Much like you, I already find myself BUSY, juggling freelance writing, bartending, playing music, hosting home cube tournaments… the list goes on! What advice would you give for juggling parenthood with the pursuit of other endeavors, Magic included? Thank you both for the years of wisdom and entertainment!

2022-09-22 19:00:30 +0000 UTCHi Marshal and Luis. I've been playing best of 3 Dominaria on arena and absolutely loving it! I'm especially enjoying the puzzle of making mana work in the 4+ color domain decks, and often find myself with 6+ duals with a tight and coherent 40 cards. Unfortunately, after spending over 1/8th of my draft on lands, I find my sideboard pretty underwhelming, with only 1 or 2 more playables. Do you have any suggestions for how to balance picks like "do I take my second green/white dual vs my first pilfer in a green/black based domain deck"?

2022-09-22 18:55:39 +0000 UTCHey guys! Might be asking a question out of my own self interest here but wanted to get your thoughts: If a mechanic (as in a set mechanic, not a mechanic on a card) is great for limited but causes problems in constructed, should it be featured in a set? Likewise, if a mechanic is fantastic for constructed but bogs down limited games, should it be a main feature? How much of a tax in one area is worth the benefit in the other? This question is brought to you by Monarch and Initiative, and Pauper. -Alex

2022-09-22 18:54:14 +0000 UTCIt may be perception of real variance and/or results orientation, but I feel like some of my worst drafts suffer from "drawing the wrong half of the deck" problem. This may just be a feeling, but are there methods to minimize this flaw in draft decks?
