Sunset show idea: “born to fly” award for the card you always hope to wheel and never do.

Andrew

I would love to hear a deep dive of Luis’s experiences, decisions, and lessons learned in the limited tournament. It seemed like a tough seat and I enjoyed watching him turn lemons into lemonade. Is there anything he would have done differently looking back?

Andrew

What are the worst draft formats that you guys have experienced?

Thys Hoeve

Hi guys! I’m following a fb page called “the limited of Poland” (big shout out for the guys running it).Besides info about polish mtg events, links to interesting contents etc., followers post their arena trophy decks there. Often there are a lot of cards there, which I don’t prioritise while drafting. I would like to ask You, how to approach this kind of information. I know it’s not 17 lands data, but can I use this deck lists somehow to get better at magic? Thanks for the show and take care! /Simon

What makes you like/dislike an aggro/assertive/tempo format? This crowd tends towards value/durdling; what are the aspects of a "faster" format that you enjoy?

Kevin D Robinson

I'm finding some drafting success when I go for simpler "attack my opponent 'til they're dead' style decks (thanks for that!). But when more complex synergies are needed, things don't come together for me. Any tips on moving to the next stage?

David Nichols

I’ve had many games so far in Phyrexia: All will be One where I’ve had (what I think is) a solid deck and curve out on the opponent, only to be crushed by some random planeswalker. Do you guys feel like the amount of planeswalkers in this set adds to the fun or takes away from it? And any tips you might have to deal with games like this? Especially if you’re not lucky enough to open any bombs.

Nicholas A Young

I am an intuitive player, and have done very well. But I feel like I am reaching the limits of this playstyle for me, and if I am going to win more at a high level I need to learn to play slow too. Did either of you work through a similar hole in your game, and if so what was your process for filling it?

frank Shaskus

Hey guys! I wanted to know if, with the shorter time between sets and the increased accessibility to drafts that Arena has enabled, your relationship with the set review has changed. While it is incredibly labor intensive, it feels as though having the rare and mythics set review coincide with the release of the set might complicate your relationship with the episode. Thanks again for all of the great content!

Luis Goicouria (manowarelves)

This is my question too!

Nate W

You both are part of the active M:tG creator community. Are you fans of any non-Magic creators? Any recommendations?

RJ Urbance

You often hear about high level competitor's having testing teams for high level events. How critical is it to be part of a team at the higher levels? Is it possible for an individual to absorb enough format knowledge independently, or would they be at a significant disadvantage unless they become part of a team?

Scott

I often find that even if I'm fine losing a game of magic, it can still affect my mood without me realizing. How do you guys keep your sense of self worth from being to tied into successes and faIlures in life?

Ian Salewski

As in person events return, how do you like to be approached by fans? What are the best practices? Hope to see you in Philly!

Alexander Ullman

I've been listening for a couple of years and finally joined. Thank you for all of the fun you bring me. My question is can talk to the strategy difference between sealed and draft?

Erik Schneider

*SPORTS ALERT* The NBA All-Star game is this weekend. Given that y'all are the Giannis and LeBron of limited, put yourselves in their shoes for the schoolyard pick. Who makes your starting 5?

Matt

Hey Marshall and Luis - I've been wondering what your thoughts are on BO1 vs. BO3 and how the formats differ, particularly when preparing for competitive events like The Pro Tour, but really any competitive format like an Arena Open where you care about the results and there's no hand-smoother in the equation. The initial numbers from 17lands appeared to be painting a much different picture of the format for ONE with the disparities between colors and color pairs being much less wide in BO3, I assume because the format is less aggressively slanted without hand-smoothing. When competition is intense, we're taught that it's a game of tiny-edges, and that this adds up over time, with practice. My concern is that those tiny edges are substantially different with the hand smoother, and that BO1 effectively has people training themselves on the wrong format for competitive play, when it matters the most. Thoughts?

Louis recently commented on the number of alternate arts and treatments on some of the cards in the set, but said he didn't want to get on his soapbox. What are your thoughts on these?

Chris Fisher

Do you think that there are Draft vs. Sealed limited formats? That is, are there sets that are just more interesting, fun and enjoyable played in one way vs. the other? Non-question commentary: I hear lots of complaints about ONE draft, but my mid-week magic sealed pool was really enjoyable. None of my colors were really great, but I could create lots of different decks, experiment with three colors and have fun because the pace of the sealed play was not "too fast." None of these decks were GOOD, mind you - but they were fun and interesting. Bant toxic artifacts w/ Jin-Git (makin' copies) and Sultai Toxic Prolieferate w/ BloatedC, Venser and Vraan- WHEE! I still lost a bit, but not on turn 5. With a variety of medium strength cards that are not super synergistic coupled with a slower tempo in the game, you can occasionally have the time do some fun stuff.

Hey Marshall & Luis, It's common to analogize a new card to an existing card to determine power level and playability... But recently I've found myself also comparing cards to their "hypothetical superior/inferior self" to help make decisions. For example, take an oil card that doesn't quite get there like Ichor Synthesizer - would it be good if it only needed 3 oil counters? Likewise, would a card that's surprisingly decent like Furnace Strider still be playable if it had only 1 oil counter? Do either of you use this type of thinking to assess cards and help position them within a format?

Andy Snare

Hey Marshall and Luis! How often do you guys go 0-3 in drafts? Sometimes I can get pretty discouraged when I go on a losing streak even though I know it could be just the luck of the draw. Listening to you guys talk so knowledgeably about Magic it can be easy to think that you guys never have bad drafts! Do you have any advice for folks when they are on losing streaks?

Daniel

Hey Marshall and Luis, With the return of the PT, I’ve been wondering if Marshall’s feelings about trying to qualify have changed at all. I know it’s a perineal question, but with fewer coverage opportunities under the new system, does that make it more or less likely that we see Marshall sitting down to draft at day one of the PT anytime soon?

Jake M Ott

Is this a patreon question of the week?
