Why is Paul's name Haumph? Is there a story behind that?

I play in a weekly Magic league with 7 of my friends where when a new set comes out, we open a prerelease kit, build a 40-card deck, and play three best-of-3s against each other. Then at the end of the night we all add a booster pack to our card pool, tweak or rebuild our decks, and do the same thing again the next week. Often we will also add in a second pre-release kit, then pool ALL of the cards together and build a 40 card deck out of those 12-14 packs. Eventually as the weeks pass and more cards get added, progressing to 60 card decks and so on until the next set comes out. Lately some people in the group have gotten down on playing Limited because they think that it's all luck. Their sentiment is "If I open a bad pre-release kit on week 1, I'm stuck playing bad cards for weeks with no chance of winning." I find this to be a little extreme. It is possible to open an exceedingly weak Kit, but I think it's somewhat rare. And I think it's possible to build at least a competitive deck out of any kit (or especially any TWO kits / 12 packs). But... maybe I'm wrong. Do you think luck plays THAT big a role in Sealed, especially in a "pod" of 8 players? Do you think that there are some Kits that are more or less unplayable?

Hey guys! Big fan of the show. Thanks for making me a better magic player! I’ve been playing Magic since OG innistrad, but started drafting about a year ago. I only dabbled until MH3 where I started to take it more seriously - Day 2-ing opens and top 250-ing mythic ladder. That continued into BLB where I made $500 in an open. But then in DSK I regressed - I struggled to get into mythic, didn’t perform well in day 2 of the open, rarely trophied…. Now that FDN is here I’m back to crushing it. I’m curious if this says anything about me as a player. What skills should I focus on that DSK required that these other sets don’t?

Thanks to Marshall, Luis, and Paul for all your work on a fantastic show! One of my regular habits is to go back and listen to old set reviews - I feel that it helps improve my card evaluation skills and gives me a sense for how Limited has evolved. What are your top one-off mechanics from old sets that you’d like to see in a forthcoming set? I personally loved Learn/Lesson from Strixhaven because of how drafting Lessons for your sideboard altered strategy during the draft.

Hi both, I recently qualified for my first PT at RC Lille and am excited to play some high stakes limited at Chicago. However, there are only two weeks between prerelease and the pro tour so will not have much time to get used to drafting the new set. Do you have any suggestions on the best way to maximise testing in such a short period of time and if there's anything I can do before the set is released? Thank you for all the work you do on the podcast.

Hi guys, I have a question on how to value pick 2 in a draft. Let's say I pick a B level white card pack 1 pick 1. For pick 2, I see a C level white card and a C+ level black card. Should I pick the white card and try to solidify in white, or pick the slightly better black card and leave myself more open? Does the answer change if pack 1 pick 1 is an A level card? Appreciate your thoughts!

I’d love to hear some thoughts on the change to the blocking damage rules, especially any strategic tips. I am a big fan of the rule change because it removes an awkward part of paper play — the “technically optimal” need to always ask your opponent to order blockers if they don’t do it automatically.

Hello Paul and Marshall, happy Thanksgiving! Is turkey over-drafted, under-drafted, or appropriately valued at the Thanksgiving dinner table? How would you tier the following protein options - Turkey, Chicken, Duck, Turducken, Ham, Tofurkey, etc?

Seems like the Burglar Rat/Unscrupulous Agent-style 2-mana discard creature is a pretty common sight in modern limited sets, and often a good card. When is the best time to play these guys? On curve to disrupt an early plan? or wait until only a few cards remain in opponent's hand to snag something good they've been building up to?

Hi fellas! With the number of draftable sets coming out increasing, do you ever think you'd reduce your coverage of a "main" set to focus on sets or other topics you find more interesting? As an example, if the Spider-Man set was shallow or boring, would you cut the number of episodes short to make room for other sets that you want to do more episodes of?

With cube worlds being one of the highlights of this year, is there anything you would want changed if this was to become a yearly event in the future?

How is Paul going to steal Luis’s thunder on the show?
