Questions for special guest Deathsie
Added 2023-07-12 19:42:17 +0000 UTCHey All,
Luis is going to have Deathsie on the show this week while Marshall deals with a family issue and this is your chance to ask any questions you'd like! Thanks for your support and let the questions fly in the comments below :)

Hello. Long time listener, first time caller. My baby girl was born 5 months ago and I'm very excited to be a dad but sometimes find it difficult to have time for myself. How do you balance having hobbies like magic and have time for yourself while having a job and kids that require most of your attention?

2023-07-13 22:19:52 +0000 UTCHey y'all! Life level up question- how do you make new habits stick. We've heard of using a die on your deck to remember triggers, but how do you remember to do your new habit, especially if it's a hard one to get into?

2023-07-13 15:01:17 +0000 UTCHi there, I'm building a Kamigawa cube with cards from all of Champions block. I'd love your thoughts on that format as a whole, and some game design philosophy of what to prioritize when building a fun draft environment with those cards. What cards would you focus on, and which would you avoid? I'll be running multiples of commons and uncommon. So there will be many levers to pull. Cheers from Norway 💖

2023-07-13 07:58:21 +0000 UTCHello both. Looking forward to the discussion. Curious if either of you have thought about an ALP? Alternative life plan - something you would do if you weren't doing your current job(s).

2023-07-13 04:02:38 +0000 UTCHey guys! On Arena I have no issues drafting a more focused and streamlined deck against the bots in Quick Draft and get good results. But when drafting with people the decks are more messy and I tend to lose more. Any advice on how to ditch the bots and make the leap to drafting more streamlined decks with real players? Always love the show, thanks for what you do!

2023-07-13 01:22:11 +0000 UTCHey, Deathsie, Sisyphus here. What do you think makes a great Magic format, and if you had Wizard’s ear, what is the main thing you’d want to tell them about what you’d like to see in future formats? You know I’m a big fan and it’s great to see you finally make an appearance on LR.

2023-07-13 00:44:12 +0000 UTCHey LSV and Deathsie. Hope everything is well with Marshall. My question is about identifying when you should go into a "bad" color. In LotR, as has been stated many times, green is terrible. What kind of card (in this set or, more generally, power level wise) would you need to open to make you go down that road? Does that card exist for this set? Thanks!

2023-07-12 23:24:16 +0000 UTCHey LSV and Deathsie! I hope all is well with Marshall and we get to hear from him next week! I think it's time for a mini Constructed Resources episode: Now that LOTR has been out for awhile, do you see it having much of an impact on modern? So far I know of only 1 new archetype, the Samwise Gamgee combo deck. The last Modern Horizons gave rise to many new decks, so I was wondering what you guys have found so far with this set. And while we're on the topic of modern, what are your favorite modern decks you have ever played? Thanks for filling in Deathsie!

2023-07-12 21:35:14 +0000 UTCHi LSV and Deathsie. I’ve been a longtime patron, but I rarely jump into the question threads. I hope whatever Marshall has going on, he is ok. My question is about your thought process around drafting archetypes. When do you decide to plant your flag on the strongest color or colors, knowing there’s a good chance they will be cut hard, or go the opposite way and try to make the best deck with potentially weaker colors that could be open? The situation that I’m thinking of here is the relative strength of black in Lord of the Rings draft, but there’s been plenty of other imbalanced formats (AFR, MID etc) and will be again. Thanks for all the level ups! Even though I can’t go as hard as I would like on drafting, LR has helped me stay connected with the game and have fun when I do get the chance to play.

2023-07-12 21:03:08 +0000 UTCDeathsie: As the modern heir-apparent Travis Woo, you've always been most entertaining when you find strategies in a draft format that are not obvious (Clear the Mind, for example). What about your gaming background has led you to be so trailblazing time and time again?

2023-07-12 20:42:08 +0000 UTCIs this the first LR episode without Marshall? I don't know how to feel, Marshall is the consistent, foundational rock of my life...! I joke (slightly) but, could you share your favorite Marshall story? Humorous or serious, a little appreciate for our favorite guy seems like a great topic for this discussion.

2023-07-12 20:13:57 +0000 UTCA lot of people are coming around on drafting green in LTR while at the start of the format it seemed simply unplayable. Do you all think this is self correction as the grixis colors now properly dry up earlier, or is this wising up to the correct way to draft and build competitive green decks? Are there cards that pull you towards making green the base color to a LTR deck? Thanks.

2023-07-12 20:13:08 +0000 UTCI’m curious as to how you balance drafting a deck that is fun for you to play versus drafting a deck that gives you the best chance to win. I understand that the sweet spot will vary from person to person.
