The kitchen fire burnt down the vintage cabinets and left ugly stains on the wall. It ruined the meal my chef left me, too, so I’m left eating takeout in my office.

I’m staring at a spreadsheet, trying to make sense of the numbers as I eat like a slob. I don’t bring food into the office. There are too many important documents up here that I can’t have getting ruined by food.

I don’t do waste time on stupid hobbies like drawing, but I’ve been doodling fruits on random corners of paper when I’m deep in thought.

I don’t sleep on the same bed sheets for over three days because I don’t like laying in my sins after a long day of violence. But I’ve ordered my maid to not change them to preserve the scent of Karine.

I don’t play Santa, but I gave a little girl kitchen toys.

I have no need for women’s jewelry, but I snatched the engagement rings from my men and shoved them into the last drawer.

What is going on with me? I’m out of sync.

With a sigh, I close the spreadsheet and open the calendar. My birthday is approaching. I’m getting older, and still childless. I need a woman — a permanent one.

Karine made a mistake by walking away from me. Predators should never face the back of prey. My brain has been spinning for days, disoriented in search of her. I need to chase, tackle, and dominate.

I need that woman’s pink lips and pinker pussy. I need to make her sing my name so she never has the audacity to dismiss me from her life again.

After finishing up on some work, I take a shower and call my PA.

“I need you to locate Karine for me. Do you still have that tracker on her? Is she at home now?”

“Yes. I haven’t had the chance to get close to the house because Maksim has been watching her like a hawk. He dispatched some men to patrol twenty-four seven.”

Of course, Maksim did that. I would have done the same, because although Karine is a spitball that can do plenty of damage, I wouldn’t risk letting her get hurt.

“Where is she? Home?”

“No. She’s been on the move since last night. It looks like she’s going north.”

“North of the state?”

“No. North of the country.”

That makes me pause. She’s far; out of my jurisdiction. I own a large chunk of the East, but I’m not the only mafia bastard in the country.

I don’t like having her out of my reach.

“Where is she?”

“About to enter Canada, it seems.”

My mind races. What business could she possibly have in Canada? Instantly, my corrupted brain assumes the worst. Has she been kidnapped?

“Has she been sticking to major highways? Traveling at reasonable speed? Is she making stops?”

“From what the system’s telling me, yes. Everything is checking out.”

“Send her past 24-hour activity to me. I need a live report, too. Where is she right now?”

I take my jacket from my seat and go downstairs, legs moving with a purpose. I have a lot of miles to cover before I can reach her.

Her live location pings on my phone. It looks like she’s stationed at a motel for now.

I scoff as I slip into my car. It looks like I’m a stalker now, too.

I consider calling her, but I don’t want to tip her off. She’d react impulsively if she knew I was on her tail. She better be with security, or I’ll really explode.

A new message pops on my phone.

This might be irrelevant, but one of her suitors is currently in Canada, too. Make of that what you will. (i)

The wheels of my car screech as I take off into the driveway. If Karine thought she was on her way to meet a suitor, then she’s sorely mistaken. I’m not done with her. I’ll stalk and demand her presence until I decide what I want from her.

I look like a gentleman with the pressed suits and shirts I wear, but I never claimed to be a good guy. Good guys often lose. I’m a winner; a rude and overbearing bastard, but I gave her plenty of warnings to keep away. Instead of listening, she gave me more tastes of her. I demand the entire meal now.

I drive for hours, getting pulled over by a cop once. He released me instantly when he read my name.

I drive through the night like a madman, closing in on Karine who hasn’t moved from the motel. If I find her with a man in a room, I hope the snow hasn’t hardened the ground enough that I can’t burry the body.

She gets on the move again early in the morning. She’s about to cross into Canada, but I keep following even as snow falls.

She stops at an odd spot in the middle of a road. There are no businesses around, so I can only assume she’s having car trouble.

I roll in behind her. She’s with someone; one of Maksim’s men that I identify. I’ll have to get rid of him.

He’s on the phone with his back facing me as Karine lifts the hood of the car. He’s likely reporting the situation to Maksim.

I sneak up to their car, my dress shoes incompatible with the terrain. There’s a crunch of snow that makes the man jerk up, but I have him in my arms before he can face me.

With measured strength, I strangle him and monitor the gun at his hip. My bicep burns from the still fresh cut, and I begin to bleed through the bandage, but I don’t let go.

He gargles as Karine realizes what’s going on. Blinking out of her shock, she comes at me. She pulls on my arms, demanding that I stop.

“Relax,” I grunt. “I’m only knocking him out.”

“You’re crazy!” she accuses repeatedly.

That I am.

The man goes limp, and Karine stops beating on me to check his pulse.

“He’s alive,” I tell her as I drag his body into her car. He should wake up soon. I need to get out of here.

“Maksim is going to kill you!”

“Yeah, yeah.” I bend, grab her by the thighs, and toss her over my shoulder.

“Luciano! Stop this!”

I’m cold since I’m only wearing a dress shirt and slacks, grumpy, and hungry from the long drive.

“I told you I didn’t want to see you again!”

“I heard you,” I reply. “But I never said I agreed. Now, we’ll find somewhere private, I’ll eat your pussy, and you’ll be calm for the rest of the day. How’s that?”

“I’ll kill you before Maksim gets to!”

I pat the back of her thigh. “Remember that spanking I gave you?”

That stills her.

“Good. Are you cold?”

“Of course I’m cold. I left my coat and luggage in the car.”

“I’ll give warm you with my tongue and buy you all the clothes you need. We need to get out of here.”

I open my passenger door and buckle her in. She shoves me away, and I grasp one of her tiny hands from my chest. I dig into my pocket, grab the rock I have in there, and set it on her ring finger before slamming the door shut.

There. Situation dealt with. She’s mine now.
