The Alien King’s Mate part 5

KING VULCAN

Everything is wrong.

When she ran from me, I raked across the city to find her. I used the resources of the politicians and personalities that were eager to help me locate her. It was frustrating having to depend on greedy men. They had answered my call instantly, pleased by the thought of me being in debt to them.

Finding her took a couple of hours. She drove in her friend’s vehicle, and her phone couldn’t be tracked. Her friend’s credit card records pinged her at a motel. Drunk, having a great time while running away from me. It’s inconceivable. A human, my yuri, decided to run away from me. I don’t like to think of myself as an arrogant man, but her reluctance is not natural. Human women love wealth and status. That’s why they line up outside my window for a chance at a crown.

Year ago, I ordered one of my officials to write a report on human women. I was interested in the values of women because most of the politicians and businessmen I meet at male. A previous human law restricted women in the workplace, and it has just been recent years where they have been reaching powerful positions.

My official reported that they highly value wealth, cosmetics, and travel. It  appears like my yuri is one of the few that’s not after my crown. I organized the press to please her. I thought that’s what she would want, but she only cringed away from the lights.

Now she stands before me cursing and glaring. Asking if I’m mentally ill because I offered her payment.

I realize three things: I am over my head, I must fire the official that wrote the report, and she has stunning brown eyes.

My hand reaches out, brushing a thumb across her cheek. She shudders, although only heat throbs between us. I grit my teeth as the mate bond rips through me, making my hands tingle as gold aches to explode and create a throne for her. My muscles are stiff and my cock is hardening, eager to introduce itself to our sweet little mate.

“I’m perfectly sane,” I tell her, pushing past the thought of how my cock will be compatible with her small body.

I must focus. There are bigger things at play than my damned desire.

“I suggest you don’t ask me this before my people. They will take offense to it.”

She lifts her hands. “Listen, I don’t want to insult anyone. I deeply apologize about the situation with your grandmother and will take full accountability, but this joke of yours is—“

“Joke?” I interject, pushing aside the comment about my grandmother for now. “I assure you, I am not the type to joke. I have full intentions of taking you home with me and making you my queen.”

She blinks repeatedly, running her eyes up and down my body as if she can’t believe I’m real. Her eyes find my crotch, and she gasps, revealing her pink little tongue.

Goddamn it. I only get harder.

Her eyes snap back to mine, her cheeks reddening. “But you can’t just take me because you want to!”

Does she think this is easy for me? She’s an intriguing, beautiful woman. A hardworking person from what I read on her file. But she’s a human. Adding her to my court will profoundly change the politics of my kingdom. Our mateship is unprecedented—inconvenient, even. Her people murdered my parents, a fact I will never forget. But I am a man of duty. I will take care of her as the gods commanded me to.

Maybe I will love her one day. Maybe this lust will become something more. It seems that the bond between us will make it easy enough.

I must take her with me. There are no other options now that her face has been plastered all over the television. Deranged criminals have their eyes set on her. When I surprised her with the press conference, I had been expecting her to jump into my arms and let me whisk her away

I didn’t expect her to hate the idea which so many other women love.

“I—I want to speak with my country’s United Nations. You can’t just take me. I know I disrespected your culture, but I will pay for it in the human courts.”

How sweet. Innocent. She thinks the politicians care for her freedom more than my gold.

The confusion with the seasoning still lingers. She thinks she has dishonored my grandmother. And although wrong, I will have to capitalize on it. I can’t allow her to return to her normal life. The monsters of this world would devour her.

“Are you sure that’s what you want? You could have anything.”

Her eyes harden. “What makes you think I don’t already have it all?”

Fine, then. I can’t deny her. There is no reason to. The embassy will authorize her exit from the planet.

“And if your leaders decline to shelter you?”

She gulps. “Then I will leave with you and be punished to the full extent to your law.”

Having her think that she made this offense is my only chance at getting her off Earth.

“Very well then.” I straighten and run a hand over my right horn, frustrated and thinking of the thousands of things that will have to change. For example: I’ve never thought much about my security detail, but it will have to be doubled for her.

“Let’s go to the United Nations now, then.”

She frowns. “But don’t you need to set an appointment?”

I chuckle at this. “No. I have a feeling they will accept us at the door.”

She reluctantly nods, and I realize she’s still stressed from the flood of reporters.

“I apologize for frightening you. My men led me to believe that you would enjoy the attention of the reporters.”

She shakes her head. “It’s fine. I just… I want to get away now.”

Her shoulders hunch, and it’s incredible how I’m flooded with urges to protect her. “My driver is outside. He will take us to the airport.”

“But my passport and stuff, I—“

I shake my head. “Not needed. You can rest during the flight. Soon this will all be over.”

She sighs and hangs her head. “Very well, your highness. Let’s get this over with.” She sets her shoulders back and walks toward the door, showing strength although she’s clearly distressed.

I follow her out the door. My men are lined outside, blocking the door. Many reporters have already left, but few remain and rabidly ask their questions.

I had been an idiot for calling them.

I walk directly in front of her and lead her to the vehicle, my men directly behind us.

“Queen!” A reporter shouts, and the next thing I hear is her cry.

I turn instantly and find a reporter gripping her wrist and snapping pictures of her face. My men pin him on the ground instantly, separating him from her.

I stomp on his camera, shattering it as other cameras continue to click around us. The next thing my foot fall’s on is the reporter’s wrist. The loud crunch of his bones is followed by female and male gasps. The reporter screams for his life, but I scan the crowd, ignoring him as I keep my foot on his wrist.

“Enough pictures.” My cold voice washes over the reporters. Not a single more picture is snapped as they scramble away.

“Get off him. Please,” comes a small voice from behind me, resounding over the male whimpers coming from the ground.

I turn to look at her. Afraid, shocked.

She’s not used to brutality. Not used to the law on my planet that the royals are untouchable.

I don’t mean to scare her, but this is who I am. I’m a protector of a kingdom. And what king would I be if I let my queen get hurt?
