The Alien King’s Mate part 9

Short part, but Vivian’s POV will be longer next chapter

VULCAN

It appears like these humans love getting their hands broken by me. They keep angering me by putting their hands on Vivian. But I will keep breaking bones until the message is delivered. She is mine.

This is a difficult, tangled situation. She wants to stay here, but it's physically impossible for me to part with her. How could I, knowing she will never be safe now that she’s in the public’s eye? That greedy judge is not the only man that will come running for her.

My kingdom needs me to return, and I need her to come with me. She made it clear she’s not interested in my gold. I couldn’t pay her to follow me, but interestingly enough, she promised she wouldn’t escape if I spared the judge. A man she doesn’t know.

I’m not sure what to make of this human with brown eyes that are more enchanting than the purest gold.

I allow her some time alone, pacing outside the doors—an unkingly display that I’ve long learned to repress. But there are too many emotions bubbling in my gut. My fingertips sizzle with pins and needles, threatening to release gold.

I hold myself back for only ten minutes before I barge back inside the room. I can wait no longer.

Vivian where I left her—sitting with her head in her hands.

When I appear beside her and she reveals her eyes, I expect sadness. After all, she has been betrayed by her leaders. But there’s only rage burning in those irises.

My guard goes up. Because I realize that although she promised she would not try to escape, there are other things she has the power to do.

“I have kept my word. I brought you to your human leaders and they decided to sell you. Now it’s time to rest and enjoy your days with your friend. We will be going home soon.”

“Your home,” she grits out.

“What?”

She jumps up from her seat, the top of her head barely reaching the middle of my chest, but the power in her eyes make her stronger than any man I’ve ever crossed.

“We’re going to your home, not mine. Let’s not get that confused. My home is Earth.”

I glance at the closed wooden doors, knowing that humans and my guards stand outside. And dozens of reporters are on the street.

I glance at her. “Another thing to not get confused is my title. I’m a king, Vivian. You cannot speak to me this way.”

There is one thing my gold can never buy, and that is the respect of the people. They will not take Vivian’s sharp tongue kindly. We have strict rules protecting the royals, and seeing that she has not been crowned queen yet, they will judge every comment, every step.

“Will you break my wrists for misbehaving?”

My innocent mate doesn’t seem to realize that there are different spectrums of pain—including frustration. And that I have no problems introducing her to it.

I reach for her, gripping the back of her neck in my palm and bending down to press my forehead against hers. She gasps, the mate bond heating our skin from our foreheads to our toes, sizzling, demanding me unclothe here and now.

“No. I could never give you pain. But I can bring you close enough. Make you fucking ache. Send you to bed with hard nipples and a throbbing cunt that your little fingers can’t satisfy. I don’t enjoy cruelty. But I'm not a stranger to it.”

She’s frozen in her spot, her eyes wide. Like she did not expect me to speak so filthy. Like I’m supposed to be a sophisticated, classy king. She will quickly learn my bloodline is one of ambitious, brutal warriors. We strive for what we get, instead of snaking around like the sly judge. That is how we forefathers conquered the kingdom. That’s how I will conquer her.

“Your spirit is hard. Fitting for a king of gold,” she says, retching herself away from me. I let her go and straighten.

She narrows her eyes. “Your people must despise you. Maybe I will find a home amongst them, after all.”

With that, she turns away from me and crosses her arms. Yet another rule she has broken.

Her words strike me. Not only because of their coldness, but because she’s right. I’m not loved by my kingdom for many reasons. This human picked up on that quickly. She thinks she will hate me along with my people.

Let them. I am not here to be anyone’s friend. I’m here to protect and provide for all the souls under me. If Vivian wants to fight the mate bond, then she is welcome to. It will be like punching air. Useless. Because the mate bond is undefeated. I just have to keep her safe. And once she’s done with her delusions, I will be right here to ease her frustrations.

“Come. I’ve made accommodations at the hotel across the street. Your friend will arrive soon.”

She follows me outside, subtly rubbing her forehead which still tingles. No more words are spoken. No more looks shared.

I speak with my guards for arrangements, and think of the other thousand things I have to take care of. The ship is prepared for takeoff, but my queen is not.

I’ve had enough of Planet Earth, and yet I’ve promised Vivian a few days to say goodbye. If I were a lesser man—the brute the whispers of the kingdom call me, then I would toss her over a shoulder and do as I will. But I have been patient. She deserves that much.

Patience will not be enough, though. Our wills keep crashing. She is opinionated—and I wouldn’t expect less from my queen, but a line must be drawn somewhere. I cannot enable her disrespect.

My men gather, keeping their faces schooled as they were trained, but the air is tense. They don’t know what to make of Vivian. A human queen is unheard of.

I send half of them to tame the crowd of rabid reporters, and then I turn to Vivian.

“Let’s go. The room awaits.”

“The?” She asks, and I realize she had been expecting plural. Separate rooms for her and I. I chuckle at this, because for all her sass, she can also be quite amusing.

Separate rooms? How ridiculous. Even if she promised she wouldn’t try to escape, I would not leave her alone. It’s not safe. Besides, sharing a bed, brushing her skin, is a weapon I will not deny myself. The mate bond will drive us both crazy, but I am ready for the madness. For the frustration that Vivian will ultimately crumble under.

She says she despises me? We will watch me make a liar of her as I lay shirtless beside her on the bed.
