Born a lowdweller, Elixa's life is destined for poverty & suffering, but she has never been submissive to fate, much to her family's dismay.
Dreaming of adventure and glory, she sets her eyes on the impossible: Building a ship that can sail the unsailable Ocean and reach unmapped land.
When she's offered an opportunity that would grant her all the equipment and manpower she needs to build her legendary ship, she jumps at the chance. After all, how hard could it be to infiltrate a horde in the wildlands and extract one of its most valuable secrets?
The only thing standing in her way is a massive horde king with violet eyes, dark hair, and a growl that sends shivers down her spine.
***
"Can you do this?" asks Queen Ceryn, clutching her pregnant belly. "It will not be an easy feat, Elixa. This horde king has my husband's blood. The men of House Arkon are beasts."
My brow furrows.
Ceryn is offering me everything I've dreamt of: Tools, materials, manpower, and literary resources that could have my ship built in a couple of years.
I rub my aching belly. I'm unsure if it's hurting because of my anxiety or the powder from Ceryn's experiments that I accidentally spilled and inhaled. I've been hurting and spotting for nearly two months now, as if I've blossomed and gotten my red. But that's impossible. I am merely twenty-seven, and us women blossom around sixty.
"What's wrong?" asks Ceryn.
I force a smile. "Nothing. Tell me what you need, Ceryn, and I'll have your answers in no time. I'll do anything to build my ship. If I can look at the unsailable ocean and feel no fear, then I assure you this 'beastly' king will hardly intimidate me."
