Back stage Sculpting HD shots

As some of you know, I've spent a couple of days working in a handmade gift for my sister. Her bday was on June 1st but no idea occurred to me until I visited her home and saw mini monsteras lining up in her living room. (Not minis, just children of a friggin homongous beautiful plant).

I don't have an oven to bake sculpts, so air-dry clay had to suffice. This brought a very obvious problem. Fast dry brings cracks and problems. Since the weather has changed to summer magic, its was impossible to avoid them but, also, The jovi white air dry clay came a bit dry and foe the level of detail I needed, water was a top priority.

The main design had holes, so this pot could be filled with soil but it would probably have problems sealing with water, so OUT OF THE QUESTION.

Everything went well at the end with the new little changes in design. I filled the small cracks due to fast dry (and poop clay), protected the sculpture with gesso and then proceed to paint with a small ammount of acrylic paint.

The nose and eyes were covered by a thin layer of translucent nail polish. I am sure there are better shiny varnish, but it had to work for now. I'd like to buy cristal doll eyes for future sculpts!

Como algunos de vosotros sabéis, he pasado un par de días trabajando en un regalo hecho a mano para mi hermana. Su cumpleaños era el 1 de junio, pero no se me ocurrió ninguna idea hasta que visité su casa y vi las mini monsteras alineadas en su salón. (No son minis, son hijos de una planta preciosa y ENORME).

No tengo horno para cocer, así que tenía que bastar con arcilla de secado al aire. Esto trajo un problema muy obvio. El secado rápido regala grietas y problemas. Como el tiempo ha cambiado a la magia del verano, era imposible evitarlas pero, además, la arcilla blanca de secado al aire de Jovi venía un poco seca y para el nivel de detalle que necesitaba, el agua era una prioridad.

El diseño principal tenía agujeros, por lo que esta maceta podría llenarse de tierra pero probablemente complicaciones  con el agua, así que FUERA LA IDEA.

Al final todo fue bien con los nuevos pequeños cambios. Rellené las pequeñas grietas con pegamento de carpintero. Protegí la escultura con gesso y luego procedí a pintar con una pequeña cantidad de pintura acrílica.

La nariz y los ojos fueron cubiertos por una fina capa de esmalte de uñas translúcido. Estoy segura de que hay mejores barnices brillantes, pero tenía que funcionar por el momento. 

Me gustaría comprar ojos de muñeca de cristal para futuras esculturas.
