2025-05-30 19:11:50 +0000 UTCFantastic reaction guys, its a queen song baybeh. George Michael came as near-as-dammit as anyone ever has to Freddie, both in vocal and stage performance/presence. I think there was a lot of parallels in their life, of course sexual orientation being one, but I mean more about their backgrounds. Freddie was born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar to Parsi-Indian parents, and raised in a British schoolin India (Moved to the UK when he was 17 I think) George was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in England to Greek-Cypriot parents. Both had fantasic voices, were flamboyant, great writers of their own songs, had that star power and they both died far too young. So I've always enjoyed that this performance happened, and agreed as good as George was and as near as he got, I don't think it would have been fair to his or Freddies legacy for George to essentially become a Freddie cover artist. I'm in the small camp that think Queen should have either quit (John Deacon actially did) when Freddie died, or changed to a different name if they wanted to carry on. I can't bring myself to see the Adam Lambart incarnation. I was the same with the Paul Rodgers version, and I really like Paul but he doesn't fit that role for me. Anyway, Stevie baby, sorry you were way off - this performance was in 1992, about 5 months after Freddie died
