Honestly, same, and I've watched this show probably a dozen times on my own, and 3 times now via reactors.

This will mean nothing to Steve or Queen, but the barman at The Black Horse is Buckells from Line of Duty.

Something like 90% of schools in Britain have a uniform policy. Though it's not government policy to.
They became more universal in my time. I didn't have to wear uniform in what you guys call elementary school. But in high school, I did. And all age schools now, pretty much have a uniform policy.

I've only ever been ID'ed once in my life - It at the off-licence. I was 39 and very obviously over 18. But behind me were 2 girls who looked about 16, both with their alcopops in hand. I think the guy at the till was just trying to head off any arguments about why he's IDing them by making a point of IDing everyone.

As someone who went to a comp school, yes we did have to wear god ugly uniforms and I hated the tie especially!! I think why The Inbetweeners is so funny to most is because a lot of us can relate. This is very much what school is like in the UK. Even your own friends never have your back and make life harder 😅 and every friend group has a Jay who just lies about everything! I never thought about the name until you guys pointed it out! They’re not quite the lowest but they’re not popular either. I’d say I fell into this group at school sadly lol. And I did drink when I was at school which is funny because as an adult, I can’t stand the taste of alcohol. I’m lucky I guess 🤣 but I always got served. I love how you guys get the humour of these very British shows and they don’t just go over your heads! This show gets better as it goes along I find.

loved the reaction, we wore uniforms in primary school and high school, polo shirts and sweatshirts for the most part then got the choice of tie blazer and shirt in senior years

This is an introduction to the characters. It gets even better.
BTW, when I was 17 I was never ID'd in the pub, however, my 21 year old mate was always ID'd. How we laughed!

I haven't been refused being served since I was 12, pubs, clubs or off licences. The fact I was around 6ft at that age helped.

Oh hell yeah! This show is absolutely hilarious: you should love it. It’s such a truthful and honest depiction of what it’s like being a teenager in the UK. I certainly can relate. Such a fun show (and the movies are great fun too).

We did wear uniforms in our normal high school, and your spot on about being a way to stop kids being bullied about how good your clothes were depending on how much money your mum and dad had.

I recently joined so I could watch Bottom uncut, and binged it in two days. I'm very happy you've started this one, and with Blackadder and Father Ted on the way, times are exciting. Three top quality shows there 😊

I was shitfaced on alcopops in gay bars in Liverpool and Manchester at 14. No one is going to think someone’s a legend for saying their mates are underage. Snitches get stitches.

Pub is short for "Public House", a place were people gathered during the day an evenings to socialize, they have been around for 100's of years, so were very important pre-electricity for entertainment. Over the years they more or less turned into licensed restaurants, most pubs serve food during the day and close the kitchens early evening. But other then that its not that dissimilar to a regular bar.
Fruit machines are essentially slot machines, you normally see 2-3 in most pubs. The jackpots are not super high, usually enough to get a couple rounds in. If you see someone loose a fair bit on one, they are worth playing as it usually means they are about to pay out.
Similar to the question machine, we call them "pub quizzes", there is no prize or anything, its just something to do, we Brits love a good quiz :D

This is very entertaining this programme . Prepare for vulgarity friends although the script is very witty, especially Will’s character. When I was doing my training to be a midwife at uni in 2008 one of the other students told me about it as her boyfriend was one of the producers. She was next level posh and dropped out after a couple of months.

Sixth Form is the last two years of secondary school here (16-18 so the same as high school in the US). Secondary school is 11-18 which is why there’s so many little kids having a go at Will 😂
In Sixth Form you do A-levels but you only study 3-4 subjects for the 2 years, based on what you want to study at university - and here you only study a single subject at university (or 2 if you do Joint Honours) for 3 years rather than picking a Major as part of a 4-year degree.
It’s only the grades you get on the exams, that determine whether you have a chance of getting into the university. Literally nothing else counts, no extracurriculars or class contribution etc, there’s no GPA. So universities will say, or they did back then they need AAA, meaning your overall grade for each from your final exams and coursework needs to be A in each - I think that’s what my University needed. And depending on what you’re going to study they’ll require an A-level in that subject or a related one.
They’re a little bit like APs from what I understand, but you have to do them and it’s the entire focus
On top of that some Universities may interview you, others may not.
The grading scales don’t exactly align either, an A is more difficult here for example - that’s not a criticism of the US system, they just scale things differently and it often causes confusion. If you get 80% or more for a University essay for example it means it’s of publishable quality in the field you’re studying.
Also here all school exams and essays that count are marked centrally and not by your teacher. None are multiple choice either.
Just to give some context and comparison, and it is relevant at times.
(That’s for England and Wales specifically, I know Scotland works differently)

Yep the vast majority of schools in the UK is uniformed - you still found ways to express yourself though.
Greg was a teacher (drama) in real life, quite a few comedians in the UK seem to have either been teachers or doctors
This is so accurate it could be a documentary…

I fruit machine, or fruity as Neal referred to it is what you'd call a slot machine, or I believe, a poker machine?

Glad you've started this straight after Bottom. I think there's a fair amount of crossover that no one seems to notice. Two of my favourite shows.

Private school and public school mean different things over here. Public school is state school, provided by tje government. Private school is run by private entities, ie. Private school

On uniform, I moved around the UK quite a bit (well, Europe), but it depended on the area and school. I was at places that had the full whack, blazer with badge, tie etc. Even had a uniform for our PE kit.
Then another which never had a uniform, did bring in a dress code, but it was really, just dark trousers. Like black jeans was enough, a lot of people broke the 'rules'. But I believe they did this to try and combat some of the bullying.
Coming from a school that did enforce it, there were still items you could get bullied over, your shoes and bag for one. But really as a kid, I couldn't care less if I had one or not, you wear your own clothes in your own time. Part of me thought it was also preparing you for work, but unless you were in retail or similar, the days of forcing people to wear shirt and tie seem to be pretty dead.
I worked for a large finance company previously, and during that time they relaxed the rules where we could wear jeans and a polo shirt... Small steps...
Unrelated note, I don't know how you can watch English shows with subtitles, it would just distract me.
