The βBlack Beautyβ theme has (or never had) been so remarkable! https://youtu.be/8u5NgC4lZ8s?si=R3nuYe2Oxw9MnCCu When I left one of my contract jobs I knew the bloke who was in charge of the Tannoy (public address system). I convinced him with a lend of my phone to broadcast this throughout the entire office. I left badly, but happy. π

2025-11-15 14:38:06 +0000 UTCand it's also a reference to the first episode of Knowing Me, Knowing You where Roger was a 'guest' for about 10 seconds

2025-11-15 01:29:52 +0000 UTCI don't know if anybody has mentioned the Alan Partridge show that preceded this, called 'Knowing me, Knowing you....with Alan Partridge', that you might be able to react to. It was a fictional chat show series, which was only 6 episodes and 1 Christmas special long.

2025-11-14 19:44:39 +0000 UTCSusan clearly hates him the whole series, it seems to be mostly Americans that think she's flirting lol the next series is even better and the newer ones are amazing

2025-11-14 18:11:53 +0000 UTCThe aerial precedes the satellite dish, and was for picking up the national free TV back when it was "terrestrial" - as in sent by radio waves. Nowadays it's all digital though. They'd also be called TV antennae. Here's a pretty standard example of TV aerials: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a2/Television_aerials_mounted_on_chimneys.jpg

2025-11-14 16:51:23 +0000 UTCThat Newcastle and Sunderland joke was good π she didnβt fit in with the culture so moved away π Newcastle and Sunderland are the same to the rest of the uk. I believe Bob Mortimer is from there aswell

2025-11-14 16:40:04 +0000 UTCI remember he was even given a comedy show, which unfortunately only ran for one series. It was pretty good though.

2025-11-14 15:22:43 +0000 UTCLoved these Alan Partridge reactions, really looking forward to the next series. One thing that's great about this episode is how they never show what's inside the draw, leaving it up to the viewer to imagine what kind of filth it is.

2025-11-14 15:20:51 +0000 UTCAerials were not replaced by Satellite TV dishes at all. Satellite dishβs are an additional option if you want upgraded viewing at a cost. Aerials are still used and will still be used for a long time.

2025-11-14 15:07:29 +0000 UTCAerial is a TV antenna that you put on the roof. Pre-satellite dish era.

2025-11-14 13:35:22 +0000 UTCYe I suppose it's kind of a passive aggressive thing a way of getting back at someone without getting angry might be the best way to put it.

2025-11-14 12:53:47 +0000 UTCThe receptionist was not flirting with him, she was trying to make him feel awkward and shut up. Which worked.

2025-11-14 12:50:17 +0000 UTCThe picture in the background when he was dancing is Roger Moore, he loves James Bond and Roger is his favourite

2025-11-14 12:47:24 +0000 UTCNot the dish, but the antenna

2025-11-14 12:46:10 +0000 UTCSusan was just winding him up before when flirting because she knows it makes him flustered and uncomfortable, it seems to be one of those things that gets lost in translation and taken at face value with reactors in the US and I definitely get why

2025-11-14 12:35:56 +0000 UTCWhen Susan was flirting with him before she wasn't being serious she was doing it to wind him up it might be a British thing but winding people up is a way of coping with annoying people I have certainly done it in the past it's similar to when people crack a joke in a tense situation to relieve the tension. I have seen a few Americans react to this and never picked up on that they always thought she was being serious so I suggest this is a cultural thing.

2025-11-14 11:35:05 +0000 UTCIf you wanted to know what was in the drawer, it was a copy of the fictional Dutch magazine 'Dikke Vrouwen op de Toiletten', translated as 'Fat women on the toilet', as confirmed by creator Armando Ianucci a few years ago π€£π€£

2025-11-14 10:39:49 +0000 UTCThe guy Taylor said looks like Billy Bob Thornton is "The Actor" Kevin Eldon. He's been in loads of stuff including Hot Fuzz, Brass Eye and Big Train and has had minor roles in loads of other stuff, even Game Of Thrones.
