The Specials - A Message To You Rudy (Official Music Video)

Comments

Not a solo person 😂

Killermcknight

So Rudy is another way of saying Rudeboy which is Jamaican slang for a young working-class man who gets into a bit of trouble. That's why they're telling him to think of his future, straighten out, and stop making problems in town. If he keeps on the way he is, he'll wind up in jail.

Definitely a live version of Too Much Too Young with the slightly faster tempo. Quality

Too Much Too Young and Little Bitch are well worth a checkout

You’ll hear another song by The Specials in Father Ted very soon, called Ghost Town. I thought they were okay, just not really my kind of music but they were quite popular back in the day.

Great band, a band very much for the working classes of the day, when they started out if you were working class in the UK you had nothing, but music was really important, they became part of the Mod revival which was happening just prior to Ska/Two Tone taking off, so we'd go to school with wearing Mod style Parka coats which we'd sew fabric band badges onto, so you'd have a large The Who badge on the back as a show of respect to the original Mod movement, then a The Jam badge for the Mod revival and then a bunch of Ska badges like The Specials, The Beat, The Selecter, Madness and Bad Manners, even though it's known as a grim period to be working class in the UK it was also a wonderful time to be around musically and culturally, my own personal Parka coat was especially rock and roll because as well as all the band badges mentioned I also had a Smurfs badge on mine which I wore with pride! 🤣 I was only 11 at the time though!

The specials, or the special one.

R.I.P. Terry Hall, the lead singer who died a couple of years ago. The Specials are one of best examples of British 'Ska revival' music also known as 2-tone, which was basically a cross between Jamaican Ska, Reggae and British punk rock. It was an interesting musical invention born out of Jamaican immigration to the UK during the 50's, when the kids of first generation immigrants mixed with white English working class guys who were influenced by the Jamaican and reggae sound. Due to this there was many UK bands in the late 70's to early 80's that adopted many elements of reggae and ska music, mainly The Specials, Madness and to a lesser extent The Police. I don't think there was much of a crossover of 2-tone into US audiences, so you might not get along with that type of music. Definitely worth checking out The Specials 'Ghost Town' and 'Much Too Young' though.

The editor cut out the whole first intro 😳

Killermcknight

These intros are getting unhinged. Are you guys ok?

Emily

Also, Too Much Too Young, and Monkey Man (which is my favourite).

Emma Edwards

I do like the special’s their biggest hit is ghost town, another very catchy track well worth checking out.
