Voting Felt Good!

Hey Laowinners!

I received my mail in ballot, and it was fun to explain to my wife, the process of democracy. Many Chinese people think that when you vote, you get two choices. You choose the next leader. This is the only difference with China.

Of course, Vivi knew more than this, but a commonly held notion in China is that America is different only in the fact that you can choose Trump or Biden.

It was so much more than that. I was able to vote on a dozen or more very important local issues, which, to me, are more important to our daily life than the figure head of our country. Although executive orders, and federal changes can have huge impacts, our daily life is our community, our neighbors, our schools, our taxes etc.

Democracy is an intricate web of checks and balances, and it's more akin to steering a ship. It takes much longer than an authoritarian country to make change, but it's the local people that make those changes, and in the end, it's the people who care that can make a difference.

We have that right in democratic countries, and it feels good.
Vivi agrees.

Thank you so much for your support.

Future video idea btw - do u mind analyzing the difference of Chinese education and US education since u actually experienced both. I also experienced both too - curious what your thoughts and experience are. Especially the Gaokao - the horrific experience for us Chinese kids haha
