How I Got My Comments Back

First of all, big, huge welcome to the new Patreons who jumped on board because of the comment ban! You guys are awesome, and I hope you are enjoying going through all of the extra content on the Laowhy86 Patreon page.
For those of you not in the know. YouTube knee jerk reacted to some claims that there were unsavory people leaving unsavory comments about children on YouTube videos via the comments section. Instead of using their very thorough comment filtering technology, they decided to blanket ban the comments section on ANY channel that had kids on it.
This was problematic for 2 reasons. The first is that most of these channels, mine included, rarely had kids on it, and we pretty much never received any bad comments about our children. Limiting the ability to communicate and get feedback from subscribers neuters our ability to see what people think about our videos and create a dialogue. The second problem is that with the comments section disabled, the algorithm gives the channel and it's videos less priority, which means less views, less ad revenue etc.
After communicating to YouTube, they claimed that it would be sorted out, but even after talking to my YouTube manager, the comments were not restored. I tried all the tricks that people claimed would work, and YouTube even told me that my channel was in the clear, yet nothing was working.
I ended up using a 3rd party extension called Tube Buddy, which I use to help with search tags for my videos, I was able to use the bulk edit tool to restore all of my videos comments, one by one.
