[K-Drama] It's Okay to Not Be Okay - Episode 1

Wow.. what a first episode. This really sparked some thoughts for me so I paused quite a bit and talked for a while. Sorry, I hope I won't pause too much next time haha! It's just that the topic of mental health really means a lot to me and I love discussing this topic.

Let me know your thoughts about this 1st episode and the topic of mental health!

Hehehe, it's gonna be fun indeed. I have a lot of fun watching K-Drama honestly. It's such a nice world to dive deeper into. And it has been a while I watched one now. Since May I think. Mainly because I haven't had the time to watch anything because I basically record stuff 24/7 and most of what I watch is for Patreon. It's a bit exhausting too honestly. Really need to find an alternative for myself sooner or later. Munyeong is suuuper interesting. Not sure if I like her yet or not, but she's definitely intriguing. Grüße zurück aus Ostwestfalen :P

It's gonna be so interesting to watch a Drama with you because it's so different from a Variety or Reality Show. I won't spoil anything because I hate it myself to get spoiled too. I will tell you if you miss anything really important. The first Time I saw episode 1 I immediately loved Moonyoung because she is such a interesting Character and you want to know her story so badly from the beginning but I wasn't sold on Gangtae. I think you might be feeling similarly? Btw, Grüße ausm Schwabenland 😉

Thanks :) It's Russian

Oh, it would be amazing if you can stop yourself from spoiling haha. I know what you feel though, but that's where the suspense comes in! If I don't understand it in future episodes and the scene explaining it already happened, you can lecture me :P About the pausing thing: I generally do get what you're saying. But to be honest with you, I don't think I would understand metaphors most of the time regardless and I usually comment on specific things the person just said, regardless of the major topic the characters talk about at the moment. I usually also go back if I missed anything. But mostly I'm a fast reader since I'm used to watching english subbed shows pretty much for 15 years now. I'm still gonna try and pay more attention to that in the future, thanks for the reminder!

Hahaha, gotcha. That's gonna be fun then! I actually kinda like her so far too. But she's definitely not an easy one. Gangtae on the other hand, I have mixed feelings about so far. I think the writers are either not telling us his thought processes on purpose or they are doing a poor job of highlighting them. He is very mysterious but also acting quite contradicting in himself. In the one scene he's a righteous hero, in the other he just abandons the same person he just rescued completely again. He seems to waver a lot and seems to not be sure what he wants himself. But then he acts like he does. So it's somewhat a weirdly "acted" mask from the character or he's just super self-conscious deep down. Let's see

I didn't even think back until the WW and their generations. That's a good assumption and definitely a huge factor why people at the time didn't consider "mental health" a thing. I agree with that completely, that they had other things to worry about and if there were no such things as wars, poverty and hunger that they'd be happy with what they had. I moreso was talking about our parents generation. My mom is around 50 years old and she also didn't grow up with the knowledge of mental health being a considerable fact. She only later on discovered that it was a thing when she already lived her early adult life like her parents did: ignoring it and just moving on with the problems present, not trying to fix them. I'm pretty sure mental health always existed, even in the WWII and before eras. People just didn't know of it and so obviously couldn't make anything out of it. But I'm convinced if you would take people from that time (and let's take someone that wasn't affected by any war), that they would show severe mental health problems that have never been properly worked on. Neither by professionals nor themselves. I think I'm kind of rambling at this point. But overall we share the same point of view, so there's not much to discuss here :P Also it's late.. almost 12 am. Thanks for your long and detailed comment though! I'm sure there's gonna be more mental health topics to talk about in this show, so I'mma just end it here

Moonyoung is one of my favorite Kdrama Characters of all Time. You aren't ready for the rest of the show. You think you know a little bit what's up but YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING 😉

BaoziBang

What's your first language? Because your English is REALLY good.

BaoziBang

You have no idea how much I want to spoil some thing you are wrong and right about, but I won't 😉 I like knowing your thoughts but it might be better to let a conversation between characters play out before you pause to talk because pausing in the middle of a scene kind of breaks apart the structure and most people I saw that did it in that way missed A LOT of clues and metaphors.

Gangtae abs are really important to show! :) I was laughing so hard cause of "number four" scene and your assumption about Munyeong and Juri being lovers. I'm in love with Munyeong. She is my type as a kdrama character - direct, ambitious, confident and fucking beautiful. I guess it's pretty obvious that those kids are them at the end of the episode. Like who else if not them? So, you had some deep thoughts about mental health. I do agree with you in most parts. I just want to share my thoughts about it. Well, I assume that mental problems weren't even considered as something important before WWII happened. Those periods our ancestors elived in were so painful and severe that they didn't even have time to think about something else besides how to survive in this world. And now we are here. A new generation that lives in "unobligated time". I usually notice a huge generation gap when it comes to such topic as "problems". My grandparents didn't understand or didn't even want to admit that mental problems exist. In their opinion, if there is no war, poverty or fatal diseases - you don't have any problems. On the one hand, i can understand their way of thinking as i mentioned it above. On the other hand, we live in a new era, thanks to our ancestors we know what we should avoid or prevent in order not to repeat the history, at least we try. Now it's time to think about ourselves and the world we live in. As you mentioned, now we are an experiment for study mental health, we are those mistakes future generations will learn from. And it passes on from generation to generation. When one problem is solved, the other comes. It's endless. Sometimes i ask myself whether i would prefer to be like physically exhausted so i won't have time to think about my mental issues or to live as i am now. And then i realize that everything goes the way it should be. Gosh, it's really hard to express your opinion on such topic in your 2nd language. So many thoughts and so poor vocabulary for expressing them. I hope at least there is some logic in my message lol. P.S. Your pauses and talks don't bother or irritate me. Quite the opposite, it's always interesting to hear and read your opinion, ideas and thoughts about something, especially to discuss! So, don't hold back and do what you enjoy doing ^^
