[K-Drama] Hotel del Luna - Episode 5

Chansung can sometimes be really stupid, huh? The mood swings are real lol. But you know what's consistent? IU's beauty. Period.

We are getting more and more of the past revealed and it's really interesting to try and guess what's gonna happen (or rather, what actually happened in the past).

Let's keep exploring!

[K-Drama] Hotel del Luna - Episode 5

I just labeled those as "destiny" or "has to be fulfilled" because it seems to be tied to the hotel. People only go there, if they still have something they wanna do. And "in order to leave to the afterlife, that thing they wanna do has to be fulfilled". That's kind of my understanding of IU's and the Hotel's viewpoint; that they can't force a ghost to go to the afterlife, if they still have something left to do in the living world so to speak. But if I read your take and viewpoint, that to me seems more like a viewpoint out of humility and out of the person#s eyes, that wants to do "that one thing". I guess you could see both sides here, but I don't know which is more "true". For example: If IU could force a ghost to the afterlife without fulfilling that "desire", then my viewpoint wouldn't make sense. But I have not yet heard or seen anything that proves or denies my thesis, so that was what I assumed.

And another thought for the unfinished business: We had a few examples already. One (poor) women wanted to try different expensive food (she never could eat while alive), one guy wanted to feel warm again (because he froze to death), one old woman wanted to read books. Seems more like a very human psychological need or want. Even the blind lady ghost. She wandered around on earth because she wanted to find baker boy, who was so nice to her and had such nice hands (even though she misremembered that). And the old man with the dog? Nothing about "I have to revenge my death and bring justice to my murderer" in sight. He only wanted to make sure, that his dog is ok. Or what about the bride of this episode? She had the strong desire to marry her loved one, but also was able to decide otherwise. Of course these are strong emotions and desires but not "destiny" or "has to be fulfilled". I don't believe in destiny.

interesting thoughts. But: We've seen the effects it had on Sanchez. Seemed to drain his energy and make him sick. And is it really a "good" way to live with your dead wife bound to you as a ghost, never being able to having any meaningful interaction with her for the rest of you life with no choice to end the "relationship" and robbing your wife the chance to go to the afterlife being reborn into a new life? Seems doubtful to me.

Yea I got the pouch thing but I understood it more as a "the groom will be haunted by the wife for the rest of his life" and isn't that essentially a good thing? They could be together, even if it's in a weird way, for the rest of his remaining life. Or did I misunderstand that and the groom would become someone like Chansung, where he can see all ghosts and they would let out all their emotions & such on him? I guess I was a bit too positive about that scenario in my head, thinking the one who is haunting him is his wife lmao. That ghosts can change their desire and motivation is interesting to me. I got the impression that the only reason they are kept in the hotel and don't instantly move to heaven/hell, the afterlife, is because of unfinished business so to speak. So that definitely is something, that exists while the ghost enters the hotel. If that reason, that "something", now suddenly changes - doesn't that imply that "something" wasn't really that important to the ghost after all? I would think that shows indecisiveness and would lead to the ghosts being punished, maybe in the form of just being forced into afterlife. After all, they didn't follow the path to their goal they initially had when entering the Hotel. It would make sense if they can just swap around and have to fulfill their desire they have at any moment, but I personally had more the understanding of that the desire they have, when entering the hotel, is the destined one that has to be fulfilled, you feel me?

Yeah... IU's beauty is undeniable. As for Chan-Sung, I had a different reaction: It's refreshing to see the male lead being the "weak" or "irrational" one for once. Chan-Sung might be "weak hearted", socially awkward and way out of his league in a confusing ghost hotel. But he is not really a fool, he has just no clue (or frame of reference) on what is going on (or if/when he might be in real danger). Like every normal human being he sometimes especially when in an overwhelming situation will act irrational or impulsive not being able to think clearly. He is in really strange circumstances. And of course he might also try to talk his way out of his impulsive actions pretending he was joking and not scared. People do that sometimes. Also: Ghosts are humans too ;) and can have more than one single motiviation. They might have some unresolved issues as a reason to stay at the hotel. But why not also marry a pretty ghost girl if the chance presents itself? People can do or want more than one single thing at a time or even change their motivation. As for the "ghost of the week" (I quite liked this one), you figured it out in the end. The "real" groom is just like Chan-Sung's father in episode 1. He is in a "coma" between life and death, so the ghost wedding would tip the balance to his death. I guess groom and bride were both in some kind of (car?) accident where she died and he was injured. She really wants to marry him (her strong desire) but she also knows, it will kill him. So she is conflicted and tries to find a loophole by marrying Chan-Sung instead. They can't burn the pouch. IU explained it. The groom would get haunted for the rest of his life and she would be doomed to stay on his side (seeing him suffering).
