Life's Cryptic Puzzle: Sermon From The Book of NieR Automata Outline

I will be creating a video sermon for you all as soon as my new equipment comes in tomorrow, but I wanted to give you a HeadStart on reading it as to what you can expect. I again appreciate everyone who has voted to support this movement and provided me with the ability to purchase new equipment. If you also have anything you want me to address let me know.

Additionally, if you don't mind an AI voice, I once gave my thoughts on the concept of God after beating NieR Automata and how we might have empathy for God.

“Turn on your consoles with me to the realm of NieR: Automata, chapter 1, verse 1, which reads…”

Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death. Is this a curse? Or some kind of punishment? I often think about the god who blessed us with this cryptic puzzle...and wonder if we'll ever get the chance to kill him.

Today, we turn to NieR: Automata for a reflection on life’s most mysterious cycle—the spiral of life and death, the ups and downs, the victories and defeats. In these words, we find a feeling many of us know: the sense that life sometimes feels like a cryptic puzzle, a cycle that traps us, challenging us to find purpose amid it all.

Is it a curse, or a punishment? Or is it something else? Something we can find meaning in, even if we’re unsure of the designer behind it all.

1. The Spiral of Life and Death: A Shared Experience

The quote speaks of being trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death. For us, this might not mean literal life and death every day, but cycles of struggle and growth, happiness and sorrow, or success and failure. Just like in NieR, each of us encounters this spiral, where we face loss, start over, and sometimes feel as though we’re trapped in patterns we can’t escape.

Reflection:

2. Is This a Curse or a Blessing?

The quote asks if this spiral is a curse or punishment. Many of us wonder this in our own lives, especially in times of hardship. Why do we face struggles? Why do we feel the pain of loss or the weight of challenges? Is life a test, or is it simply what it is—an experience, with all its highs and lows?

Reflection:

3. The “God” Who Created the Puzzle

The final lines speak of a god who blessed us with this cryptic puzzle and the hope of possibly one day killing him. This is powerful because it shows a longing for control, an urge to confront the force (or forces) behind our struggles.

Reflection:

4. The Cryptic Puzzle as a Path to Self-Discovery

If life is a cryptic puzzle, then we are each puzzle-solvers. Our role, as players in this game of life, is to explore the unknown, find our own way through the spiral, and take on the challenges that come our way.

Reflection:

Conclusion: Embracing the Spiral, Finding Our Power

We may never fully solve life’s cryptic puzzle, but each of us has the chance to find purpose, to take ownership of our journey, and to make choices that bring meaning into the spiral. We can choose to see life not as a punishment, but as an adventure—a game where every respawn, every restart, is a chance to try again, to find new meaning, and to create a life that’s truly our own.

So as we go forth, let’s remember the words of NieR: Automata. Let’s face life’s challenges as players with curiosity, courage, and resilience. GG’s, and may we find purpose in every step of the spiral.
