Rest & Regroup - BROKEN DOWN: Ep.3

Excuse the delay folks, I've spent the past few days wrestling this video out of the editing software. I was playing whack-a-mole with footage going missing replaced by big red screens all throughout, you'd fix one clip & the 2 either side would go, frustration level 10!

So in this episode, after being paid a little visit and having my world knocked I was struggling to get control back, the following day suffered as a result and I missed a junction that put me miles off course. But as is the way on these types of trips it wasn't all bad, I had my spirits lifted by some unlikely characters, then found a place to just stop for a bit.

Thanks all & enjoy.

Beautiful views.. Haters will always hate, but ya gotta protect ya pup, thats why we train them to stop them getting into danger.. or being complete doofus's like mine

Kieran Nicholas

Hi, the spot you found with the dry docked boat looked amazing! as ever, wonderful content, put together very well Even if it was of a poorer standard I would still happy stay as a patron because I think your van is bad ass and you and Lance are legends in my book! Chip up and crack on, haters gonna hate..

Simon Barrett

Just Beautiful…

Chris B

Damn that was beautiful.

Sebastian Cole

OK cheers Mr. Mountain I'll check that out 👍

Steve Wild

I came back here after seeing the email notification from CJ about the flak he had received and wanted to see what else had emerged. I see that some are using the Patreon app and they are having display issues, I have never used this app so I will clarify what works for me. I use Google Chrome on my laptop and view all my YouTube and Patreon vids on it. When there is a live feed on Patreon I click the YouTube icon (which is in the lower right corner on my PC laptop but on other devices I believe it is elsewhere) and this allows the chat facility that is not available on Patreon. With this set up the casting is also faultless to my Chromecast attached to my TV. I've just tried it again and although it still auto starts it's from the last position that I had viewed and not from the beginning! Bizarrely the minimise icon works when using cast but will not work when using the laptop only! I agree with Thomas Rodde that the seek bar is virtually useless and doesn't work properly at all. Like me, he is missing the mini-preview in the YT search bar for finding a particular scene. It defiantly comes across as beta software but I am willing and I would imagine a few others would be willing to assist in testing. Don't let this deflect you from what you do so well CJ and Lance 👌🐕👍

I don't have a Windows(or modern Linux) system available so this is just a suggestion: In your browser enter preferences and look through all settings for an 'Autoplay' function, if it is set to 'Allow' alter it to deny.

Mr. Berg

Ps. Just for shits and giggles I tried it on the TOR browser 12.0.7 and that did not go to well. Buffering issues, low resolution and hangs when dragging the timeline indicator.

Mr. Berg

Update: I'll leave it here for visibility rather than a sub comment. This is running macOS 12.6.7 With the new Mullvad 12.0.7 browser(based on Firefox 102.12.0esr) a collaboration with the TOR project everything is working fine. No auto play issue and dragging the timeline indikator works as it should. On Safari 16.6 the whole video/stream is so jerky it is unwatchable, whitch it trends to do on most streams. That and being slow and clunky is why I stopped using it a long time ago. So to sum it up from my experience(and others posted above) it seems the experience using the Patreon player is very much browser related.

Mr. Berg

Casting to my TV works fine on this platform. No issues

Not All Who Wander Are Lost

Really enjoyed that one mate, loved the scenery changing and the real countryside kicking in

steve lambourne

Wonderful video as ever, great content and loved the symbolic viking pyre. No issue with screen sizing for me as I watch everything on my tablet. Keep it up!

Stuart Benson

I do that too and the other Patreon people I watch still can as the YouTube link still shows in the bottom of the video. But to watch CJ’s just now I streamed to my Apple TV instead

Chris Mann

Another beautiful video CJ, that park up looks insane. You can tell in the video how much brighter you are after this brief human interactions, and glad your visitor didn’t show up at the end of this one… as for uploading direct to patreon, the only downside is that I can’t see an easy way to watch on my tv. Usually I’d click through your patreon email, hit the YouTube button on the video and then next time I have YT on (which is every evening in the ps4 at home), it’d be there in our library ready to watch. Guessing there much be a way to stream it from phone to ps4 or to tv but it’s just an extra faff or extra apps.

Adam Bottomley

Great video you could really tell you were in a better place 👌👍🔥

Hey CJ, another great video. No need to invent excuses for being late. Chilling on the deck before Summer fully takes hold of Portugal, sipping some sangría, watching Lance being Lance – that’s totally fine … 😜 As for the video experience: Very much a mixed bag. I’ve always watched your Patreon videos on YT, because, well, that’s where I do my video watching. Using a MacBook Air M1 with an external 27” 4k@60Hz monitor, Safari 16.5 and MacOS 13.4. The good: – The video plays without any stutter or hiccups (300 Mbps fibre optics). – Unlike Steve Wild, it does not auto-play for me, and the minimise icon works as expected. The bad: – Missing YT’s cinema mode, i.e., half way between standard size and full screen – it’s what I mostly use there. – Also missing the mini-preview in the YT search bar for finding a particular scene. The ugly: Random issues when trying to jump to a specific moment in the video: – Hitting the left/right arrow keys moves the progress bar indicator by 10 seconds but otherwise has no effect. – Dragging the indicator backwards does not move playback there. The indicator jumps right back to the current position. – Dragging the indicator forward makes the progress bar display that time but also does not move playback there. In all three cases, the video just keeps on playing wherever it happens to be. It does not advance/rewind accordingly. More random issues with subtitles: – More often than not, they are shown when starting the video, even when deactivated in the menu. – Sometimes moving the progress bar indicator makes them appear, even when deactivated. I have to manually switch them on and off again to make them disappear. I made sure to deactivate (not un-install) all extensions and ad blockers. Sometimes quitting and restarting Safari solves these issues, sometimes it doesn’t. In its current state, the Patreon player feels beta, at most. I much prefer the YT player. And no, I can’t be assed to install another browser only for Patreon.

Thomas Rodde

Can no longer cast to my tv, only got small phone screen, so can't really sit down, relax with brew, me and my wife, so good lu k with your travels, pity can't watch you, take care pal

Paul Strachan

Another fantastic episode. Shame that I can no longer cast it to the TV, which I could from YouTube. Small screen only now.

David Lefever

Wonderful watch CJ. It's an honour to share the journey with you. Just fyi, on iPad I switched to full screen mode and it flipped by itself into portrait orientation. So I turned the iPad around and it shat it's pants. Switched to laptop and all worked wonderfully well. Again, thank you for everything, life has it's ups and downs but I hope you can feel the support of the Patreon clan right with you every step of the way.

Philip Prideaux

Amazing stuff CJ! So much of this series resonates with me. I'm currently suffering from stress & anxiety (which results in physical health issues). It's equally scary and frustrating. But this isn't about me at all. I just want you to know that there are millions of other people like us out there and it doesn't have to be a lonely struggle. Like you, I'm introverted. I hate it when people say "Do you want to talk about it?". In those moments, all I want to do is shut myself away and be with my own thoughts. I don't have any answers my friend, but know to some extent where you're at. The line is always open.

Pete Etheridge

I keep looking at that beautiful park-up with the crane and thinking A how incredibly beautiful / stunning / peaceful etc and B if that were in the UK it would be covered with other people's shit they cant be bothered to put in the bin / take home

Phil Rogers

Take ur time con sorry cj 😉 we are here for you & ash whenever, life is for living not just patreon.

Margaret Butler

Elastic bands, one on each end, that'll bodge your blind....! Oh great vid btw!

Micky Newell

Great video CJ, I loved the bit with the train noises 😂🤣 I watch on my Samsung phone or my Lonovo tablet and have never had any issues. Take time for you, Dont over work, We are here because we want to be but don't pressure yourself for perfection. Life happens, 6 months ago I didn't think I'd be disabled and can hardly walk some days, but that's now my reality. Live Life for you! And we'll just come along for the ride. In my view you have never ever put out a bad video. But I do think you put way to much pressure on yourself. Please try not too. Lots of love from little old me in Scotland ❤. Fun fact, Do you know that us scots says "it's Baltic" when it's freezing..I wonder why the baltic sea is called the baltic sea......probably cause its freezing 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Dreaded scots lass

Loved the vid dude and looking forward to the next one 😁. However, cuts off a large part of the screen for me when casting from the patreon app to watch directly on the TV (and thus unwatchable). And as with others does not seem to be recognised on my fire stick (no host/app?) which is a bummer. Watched on phone for the time being

Jonathan Harris

That was fantastic, again! I am enjoying this trip so much, loving the soundtracks too.

Susan twomey

First off, I want to say what a brilliant video CJ, possibly the best ever 🐕👍👍 I always watch on a Lenovo laptop with a good sized screen and excellent audio output. Video and audio quality were no different on my particular set up and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Three issues that caused me no real problem but are different to Youtube are as follows: The video auto starts to play when the page opens and so I just had to back it up to the beginning so as not to miss anything. The search bar at the bottom of Youtube vids gives a mini screen preview of where I want to rewind to but It doesn't on this Patreon player and it is irritating because it's pure guess work to find the place you want to be and the situation gets worse on longer vids as you end up going back way too far. Same as @Mr. Mountain said that the minimise icon doesn't work and I had to press escape to return to the Patreon page. I didn't experience any glitches or stuttering like he did though. I have read all the comments and I agree that with my eyesight It wouldn't be possible to enjoy any videos on my phone. Although this is not an ideal solution for those that don't have them but I have a Chromecast and a firestick attached to my tele. The Firestick wouldn't play it but my Chromecast played it perfectly. Perhaps Patreon can address these issues 🙏

Steve Wild

Brilliant, your face when you picked up your passenger.. it lit up… like you say, human interaction is needed .. tops up the social skills and recharges the mind. You sir and lancy boy are motivation for lots of folk. Thank you.

Oh and FYI the iron mill can be found here - https://www.sca.com/en/forest/scas-forests/welcome-to-our-forest/galtstrom-ironworks/

Matt wall

Yet another truly beautiful bit of storytelling and videography! You are excelling at this right now. Worked fine for me, no stuttering etc, just 40 minutes of pure enjoyment and interest. Keep up the awesome work Sir!

Matt wall

Loving this series and your videos just keep getting better, no bullshit, no click bait, just a genuine guy and a dog doing their best to get through whatever comes at them. Much respect.

Simon Newman

That little locomotive was so cute! Glad you are taking some time off for you. 💜🚐

Trig and Indy

💙💙💙💙💙💙loved this video. As your song said “a new day will restore us” and then your Burning Man moment. 🔥💙🔥💙 Tech-wise using an iPhone and airplay to Samsung TV from Patreon app was superb, MUCH better quality audio and vision than your previous content using same method. I did need to go into Apple AirPlay settings on the TV and turn off closed captions. It was off on phone but still on in television settings. Fill up was translated to Phillip 😂

Annie L

My Patreon player doesn’t seem to work full screen on the phone. No option to watch on TV either.

A

Will check this evening CJ. Did I see a glimpse of Amber with a bike rack on another channel?? Loved the clip for Joe too. Hope you are on your way south. Take care bud. 👍🐕

Stuart Birt

Perfect timing, I just finished Broken Down pt2 last night. Good to hear your keeping well. Hope your still getting some gaming time. Some great games previewed this week Avatar looks amazing, take care CJ catch you on the road some time.

AL H

Ah shite, I can’t watch this on my TV. I used to add it to my Watch Later on YT so I could watch it comfortably on the sofa. My only options now are small screen.

Scott Thornton

Ahh man. We watch by broadcasting YouTube to the big screen. Not sure what the choices are on here. Will report back

Leo Prince

Used to have that happen with my old editing software.. I use davinci resolve now and never had the problem again.. and it's free so that's even better..only issue with having a video on here is I can't watch it on my TV so can't really watch it on a phone screen
