Another journal, so soon! In lieu of being yearly culminations, I figured they could be more simple and lighthearted. More random, if you will!
I was visiting an artist friend in Maryland for the past few days! She's the last person I know who's still in school and is set to graduate in the spring. I told her I was struggling to enjoy art lately, so with me being a perfectionist in mind, she made me do one of her past assignments: create "bad" art by painting aimlessly while listening to an entire album.
I didn't have a favorite album for it and chose a random one from her lists — Gato by David Wojciechowski and Victor Fritzsche! I think I was channeling the energy of warm, chill vibes of a lounge space.

We then went to a studio so my friend could continue modeling for a professor's painting that was held off for months while I sketched the location. They discussed pigments by color name, quality, and brand, which was very intriguing! As a digital-focused artist, I have a peculiar way of using specific HSL values for color theory and complaining about the accuracy of displays.

The next day, we headed to the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington in hopes of seeing a binturong! I wanted to study and design a character of one, but unfortunately most animals were relocated for the cold season. We still got to see some animals!
We afterward tried some Cantonese shrimp and chive dumplings that were colored a very strange green (I was too stunned to take pictures, haha) and listened to The Planets at The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra while loosely doodling in the darkness. I did say I wanted to try drawing on paper again!

We finally returned to rest at her place, where I observed her desk while she got some work done. I also helped her complete some hard requirements to reach 100% in Kirby and the Forgotten Land and watched two episodes of that Campfire Cooking anime (which seems literally made for me — cooking, fantasy, wholesome, and a giant dog... hello?!). In the end, it was pleasant to see and hang out with a friend again after so long.
To wrap up: enjoy these silly dogs we scribbled back and forth. Can you guess which ones were mine? :D
