Yes, they might target ships beforehand via some pattern, but that would never work for unexpected situations, like some high level martial artist getting aboard, cause they didnt have any way to quickly notify about lost fight and escape from Lee gwak, as they did in last chapter. So it was always prone to fail at some time. How confident can he be, when he cant take down 9 other sects , or any coalition by himself, having his own people believe in him wont help him win with others much. Even Jade Alliance, which have tight ties to merchant Group, due to loan [ mentioned in previous chaps] would annihilate that Island with some help. And all merchants Group are being plundered by the lord of the Island, so everyone will be against him once this comes out, so I still don't understand taking such a huge risk, when it would always end in Total failure, no matter the support of his people --------- After reading 160: He was so sure about the whole setup, cause there were only 2 people connecting him with piracy, that he could dispose off any moment. But they would never betray him, even if on brink of death. But... given the Sherlock lady investigating the case, and Lee almost perfectly replicting secret technics with a piece of wood, its going to get bloody soon :D He should execute both of his subortinates right away in chap 160, but he let them live, thats another mistake, even if lady sherlock had some clues and recognized secret technic, it would be word against the word, but now Yu Mun Sang continues his ignorance.... He is not clever and worth being a "cult" leader. He had no problem executing people that he plundered, but now when he knows about the first lost sea battle ever and his disciple (older guy) didn't even mentioned it to him when they met privately... (they only talked about making the younger guy official secret disciple) he still let them live. I guess its just greed (stupid reason, but happens) and god complex that drives him, he made it to the top, but its still not enough for him. It would make a little more sense if they mentioned that its not the first time (lost battle/witnesses), there was a problem that required killing all witnesses, but that didn't happen. I mean its a sect, and there must be some secret agents, they didn't see Lee Gwak interact with the invited guy named: Seap Yu-saeng? It was the first ship surviving encounter with Pirates, why the hell none, talked with them in the docks from the Alliance Leader side... mistakes after mistakes, I don't know anymore how they operate

2024-05-10 10:09:39 +0000 UTCI don't think they target ships randomly. the head of the alliance is the highest actor who controls (or at least is connected to) that pirate group. It is not impossible that some of the ships that were looted had been targeted from the start on the orders of the alliance leader. Or at least the pirate group had received information about the cargo being transported along with the ship's crew and passengers. The meeting with Lee Gwak was truly unexpected for both the pirates and the people behind them. The merchant ships often went back and forth to that area, it was not difficult to find out the pattern. I think the alliance leader might be too confident. He believes that even if this pirate scandal is revealed it will not affect him because the level of public trust is very high even at the cult stage.

2024-05-10 09:05:26 +0000 UTCDependance? Was there any mentions that he did something specific for the people? Other than being the guy that made sect go up the rankings? Wouldn't that be true for all leaders of other sects? He was giving out social money, narcotics or anything similar? Or was he activly fighting the piracy for them? Well it wouldn't be for people, cause it would be more likely for merchant sects. Maybe I missed something, let me know. For me leaders are detached from lower machinations, most of the times, they make it with the help of managers or ministers you could call them. So given that not much was mentioned about the leader [unless i missed it] taking such a huge risk, and letting some unstable martial artist plunder random ships with who knows how powerful beings on board, thinking than killing witnesses would solve revealing it was utterly stupid. They didn't even had any quick info network, backup plans to notify that 1 target has escape, to kill Lee and others even before they made it to the Island or right after it. And that lady that was investigating it, is going to take charge of the Island after Lee plays with them :D But nevertheless it was rushed (or maybe author will do reverse-reavaling of the intelligence of the leader in the coming chapters) revealing it so fast without proper context that he pulls the strings for piracy in the region, given how much he could loose in case other top sects knew, how many contigency plans were missing, it felt too stupid for a leader of the sect, it all went down to just simply killing Lee now to solve it, where everyone heard the name of the pirate guy that lost the fight. If it wasn't for the festival they wouldn't even have time to notify the leader about the problem, cause that ship would be long gone. Thats why it was so suprising to me, but in a good way -> Lee will kick ass of the high target soon hehe

2024-05-10 05:42:39 +0000 UTCI had expected that when Lee Gwak felt that the sea martial celebration was like a cult to praise Yu Mun Sang. I bet one of the reasons he created that insecurity was to increase people's dependence on him.
