Storyboards Part 1

Hello there

This post was gonna be tomorrow to separate The ParaPod posts, but a sprung deadline for Forty20 magazine on a very exhausted boy (me) has flipped Thurs and Fri round.

Not that this information is relevant to the post, you'd be none the wiser, but I'm typing through lead-heavy eyes and just writing every thought I have it seems.  So let's get on track...

I have little moments these days when I suddenly realise "Oh I can show them that now!", as we have done away with the spoilers regarding the movie.  So, not long ago, I was sat where I am right now in the art room, looking over at the shelves, and saw the big pile of storyboards that have been in this room for literally years.  They were all on cork boards in here during the making and post production (longer term inmates will remember how often I had to be careful not to get them in shot on videos), until the blissful day I got to take them down and reclaim that wall.

To give some clarification, there were dual purposes for the storyboards.  Some of them were done before shooting for camera guidance, some of them were done after shooting for editing guidance.  They were mainly to help visualise how the film would look, without me having to watch the scenes, if I decided to swap stuff around (which I did loads).

You'd be surprised with some of the storyboards that were done before shooting, in how accurate they were to the finished shots.  There is one long section of the film particularly, that looks as though the boards couldn't possibly have been done before.  Barry never saw those boards, and yet ended up doing pretty much exactly what was on them.  In a documentary.  He's either very predictable, or I'm very good at being a puppet master.  It's probably a bit of both...

For today though, I shall show you the boards for the very first bit of the film (including one which was cut).  Incidentally, we used the boards for the studio stuff in early cuts of the film as placeholders, with a vague 'script' beneath them of what needed to be gotten across.

These are all gonna end up on Etsy at some point, as I am strangely non-attached to them (it may be over-familiarity), so I dare say I will be walking away with a cool twenty quid for the full set. I don't anticipate a high demand for these artistic efforts...

Shall we?

Yes, let's...

There we go, some actual production boards in an order that actually makes sense for the first time ever on this patreon.

I'll show you more collections of different scenes further down the line (may need reminding to).

Hope you have a lovely Thursday ahead of you and that all is happy for you

Much love as per

Ha, no I didn't say that. There's definitely no book in that. I have been casually putting together a sort of "making of" book over the years though, and they could find themselves in there. Totally forgot I did that limited run of storyboards on Etsy! That's ace that you have one, thank you!

If you could see this stare...

Ooooo animate them and put the film soundtrack over it!

Peter Robinson

Not sure if I imagined this, but did you say at one time you were thinking of putting all the storyboards together in a book to sell? to be like a behind the scenes and production making of for the film? Love seeing the storyboards by the way. I got one before seeing the film and was very baffled by Barry in a witches hat.
