Making Toys Better

Hello there

It feels ages since I've weathered anything, and as I am currently on this weird compulsive arty home improvements kick, I made the plunge to attempt to improve a bluetooth speaker thing I have.

What I didn't mention in the video, perhaps on account of having to do commentary retrospectively and not being sure of my timings, was that this character is voiced by Paul Reubens (of Pee Wee Herman fame).  I mean, it's pretty obviously him, but this is one of the main reasons I've a big fan of this expanded universe character for sure.

Also, I was thinking as this uploaded at what a huge turnaround it was.  I did this in the middle of the night on Sunday, and edited three hours of footage into 5 mins today (Monday).  Made me think about editing a lot, and my obstinate ploughing through on it.  I reckon the worst thing you can do with editing is bail on it, it takes a commitment to completion.  It's completely do-able but requires you to be bothered to do it.  It is knackering (I'm not even sure why - maybe just mentally), but if a job is worth doing etc. Yep I know I'm just complimenting myself here, but I very much like that I do things properly.  I'm sure you were going to say that, so I've saved you a job, and we can all agree that everyone was going to compliment me but I just did it myself.

I also really wish "weathering" was a job.  I wish that was something you could do for a living.  I googled jobs and the nearest I could find as "Weather Forecaster".  That's not the same thing.

Hope your week is off to a lovely start over there. See you tomorrow for Loopholes Episode 9...NINE!  How hard does this lad work!?!?!?! (I am very tired most of the time)

Loves to you

Lovely work on both the weathering and the editing fronts, sir. The “metal” parts actually look like they have good weight to them now!

I do sometimes do the medium thing on larger stuff, but haven't used a retarder. I'm trying to think if I've ever had an issue with acrylic getting patchy but I'm not sure I have. It might be because I just keep doing it till it looks right - very scientific. Have noted it though and appreciate the tip. Although every time you contact me you hustle me to buy something...

Oh wow that came out stunning. Possible tip, when I try weathering it ends up looking patchy on larger surfaces because acrylic dries fast. Grab some acrylic retarder (I thought they were called something else now) to slow down drying a friend also got me to add clear medium to the paint to get a translucent oily look.
