Sidebottom Beauty Shots

Hello there

So...after the outpouring of love for the Bat-poles beauty shots last week, I thought "Oooooh I've made other dioramas that I could take cool pictures of and that will be another popular post".  Not that I'm cynical.

They haven't come out as well as the Bat-Poles.

This is a Frank Sidebottom diorama that I made years ago, with a figure that I also pretty much made.  Well, I put it together from various sources and then moulded the head myself.

Which, actually, isn't a good sculpt at all. I think photographing it shows that up even more.  Firstly it's too big, and secondly it's really not very accomplished.  It's on the list to have another crack at, with a different sculpting material in the future, but for now we are lumbered with this semi-blasphemy.

Also, the diorama bit of it is really small compared to the Bat-Poles (which is now the standard comparison for everything), so was tougher to do anything interesting with.  I had a go, but it's mostly the style of photo that I've messed about with, rather than what's in it.

I definitely favour the B&W setting...as you'll see.

I'll shush.  Shall we?

Yes we will.  We really will.

Had to fix the eyes a bit first because it had all faded away to nothing.  I speak about this a bit more in Cabin Fever tomorrow if you are desperate to know behind the scenes.

Oh I fixed the tie at 7am this morning as well...as you can see it had faded to no colour...

Right, now we can get to the poser shots.  Please don't forget this isn't a Hot Toys figure.  This is an Ian Toys figure.  The quality is significantly less, but so is the price.

Set shots first, then we are into the action.

There we go.  I actually think my main take away from these pics has been quite how far I've come in my diorama skill set since making this.

I do still think it was a good crack at it from a beginner back then though.

Oh and here is me after doing the pics which will be a tradition if I ever do any more beauty shots.  Just so you know it was me doing it.

I know, I know...I've seen better days...

Hope you are safe and happy whatever you are up to, and that the weekend proves to be wonderful for you.

Very much love

Oh absolutely, the actual head was covered in “faults” and battered, and I’ve kept the diorama as disheveled as possible because his stage sets were a tip. There’s just a few bits that’s can be tweaked on it now (like doing the tie in proper colour, it looks miles better now and was an easy job)

I remember enjoying the detail when you posted the finished diorama, but this is an entirely different set of beauty shots. Wonderful poses! And I think the fact that it doesn’t have the polish of Hot Toys figures is in keeping with the Sidebottom aesthetic anyway, if I’ve understood it correctly from your posts.
