Star Wars Collection Beauty Shots

Hello there

As a final accompaniment to the Obsessions pieces I wrote about the Star Wars collection, I have - this evening - traipsed around the house taking beauty shots of everything. I'm not actually including everything here, but you'll get the idea. It's still a lot of pictures so run now if you can't handle it...

Now, before we get underway, I shall reiterate that in many ways I HATE doing posts like this.  It is really not my intention to come across as boasting or showing off what I've got or any of that.  I really want to point out that this collection has been put together over a lifetime, not in the last couple of weeks. Just...please don't think I'm showing off.  Nothing I dislike more to be honest, it's just the illustrative part of the writing posts.  If you've read them then you'll know that this collection has been a tangible representation of many a breakdown and life-mismanagement.

If anything, this should serve as a warning. There but for the grace of God and all that.

Right, that's as negative a start as I could possibly do, so let's have a gander through...

Ive not included pics of the 1:1 scale counterparts (Darth & Stormtrooper), but I never need asking twice to show off these two.  Self-built, and remain the peak of any achievement I've ever had (or will have, I suspect).

Time for some toys now (they are NOT toys and NOT to be played with)...

Hot Toys Darth Vader, with Hot Toys two-set of Stormtroopers.

Alternate shot of the Stormtroopers without being blocked out by Skywalker Snr. The bits of backdrop are salvaged from a diorama I made years ago and ultimately binned.

A diorama I made years ago, figures are Sideshow R5-D4 and the Sideshow Jawas which are the worst quality figures I have ever bought.  I include every single Hasbro one in that. These were supposed to be high-end and I returned them twice.  Still have stupidly loose limbs and made me very reluctant to ever buy from Sideshow again.  Not that I would make a fuss or bad-mouth them, you understand.

Hot Toys Tarkin.

This was technically the first Hot Toys figure I got, it's the alternate Luke Skywalker from The Empire Strikes Back where he is battered and bloodied.  I put this in B&W because that's the stump of his severed hand he is holding, and it is pretty gross in full colour.  This came in a two-set with a pristine version (which is the one that was on the Dagobah diorama I showed you - haven't included it here).

That's that Luke again, alongside a Sideshow Probe Droid (which does have two antenna on the top but one won't stay up because Sideshow), and Hot Toys ESB Leia.

That's the Premium Format Stormtrooper by Sideshow that I got cheap as it was damaged.  If you look closely you can see a crack line in the armour on his right shin, which I glued all up nicely. Thinking about it, Sideshow probably shipped them all like that.

Sideshow R2-D2 and Sideshow C-3PO.  Both have light up parts, neither work any more despite being just on a shelf because Sideshow.

Hot Toys Han and Chewie.

Hot Toys Obi Wan Kenobi.

All Hot Toys except the Sideshow droids.

That's the 1:1 middle leg for my R2, which I am yet to work out a way of attaching safely and securely.  It also dramatically increases the surface area of it (1:1 R2 is deceptively large).  On the right is the Kotobukiya Sandtrooper which didn't sell when I eBayed the rest of the collection years ago so is shoved up on a shelf in the hall out of the way.

I bought the Sideshow Speeder Bike in a store called Think Geek in Florida, which sadly didn't survive the pandemic. They were so lovely in there too.  It was dramatically marked down (so they were perhaps already struggling), which is why I went through the hassle of bringing such a large thing back.  It was around $70, and retailed in the UK for - I think - £350 (might have been more). I wasn't lying about waiting for bargains.  The figure is Hot Toys though, and actually the version from The Mandalorian.  On the week they brought it out, they also announced a Return Of The Jedi version, that I think is still waiting for release.  Just a repaint and an extra gun.  These companies really do make some dick moves you know...

You know about these already.  Second best bit of my collection after the 1:1 droids.

I take it back, joint second best... This was another US bargain that fell in my lap.  Honestly, I won't even tell you how little I paid for this.  You'd despise me. Oh and that's embarrassing! Look at those high scores! Oh I didn't mean to include those!  Hahahah how embarrassing! (read'em and weep all challengers)

Jumbo Kenner figures I bought from my £400 winnings after getting rid of my original collection. I've included the art bits for scale.

These is the Kotobukiya statue that I kept by choice.  I maintain it's the best representation ever of these two droids in small scale. Koto still make Star Wars replicas but they are in very small scale now. I think they're now 1:18 scale.  This one is around 1:6 and they no longer make that size.

1:6 scale Sideshow Jabba and throne.  I did list this on eBay once and it didn't sell.  I'll probably do it again at some point.  It's presently on top of a wardrobe and not a centrepiece.

Feel free to go make a cup of tea if you want...I know this is going on a bit but didn't want to drag it out into two parts.

This is the infamous Gamorrean Guard 1:1 bust.  It's ridiculous and I love it. Even though it's Sideshow.

This however is half brilliant and half awful.  It's a knock-off 1:1 scale Salacious Crumb puppet, that I've padded with an internal armature.  The head and body is great, but the hands are ludicrously podgy.  That's not at all what his hands are like, I just haven't plucked up the courage to try and amend them.  I did consider blasting them with a heat gun to see if they would shrink, but have so far bottled it.

This is a special edition repaint of the Hot Toys Boba Fett which was released for the 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back.  It's in the colours of the original Kenner figure and I absolutely adore it. I think it's really classy.  I normally hate repaints, but this does something exciting to me from an aesthetic point of view.  Love it.

This is the last small-scale figure I bought.  It's DJ-R3X (Rex) which is a character from the Disney Parks.  I really love this character, in no small part due to it being voiced by Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman).  It first appeared in the original Star Tours ride as the pilot of the craft, but was ultimately replaced with C-3PO. He got a new lease of life in Galaxy's Edge (the Disney Parks Star Wars world) and is the house DJ in Olga's Cantina.  If you have music streaming there is an album of the music he plays on there, which can regularly be heard blaring out in my house if I need comforting.

Speaking of Galaxy's Edge, let's have a few bit from there...

Kids toy version of the Jawa Sandcrawler from the Toydarian Toymaker store.  It's all old school style toys, in a lovely little market shop. I got a few card games and things there too, and regret not buying the HoloChess wooden set.

This is a 1:1 replica of the torch Yoda uses in The Empire Strikes Back.  From Dok-Ondar's Den Of Antiquities - the best shop in Galaxy's Edge by a mile. I had to be really strict with myself in there (successfully).

They're just fridge magnets.  This has really gone on too long.  You get your money's worth in my posts eh?

Half-Scale Sideshow Yoda statue.  No issues reported yet but there's time.

Hot Toys Yoda.

Vintage pillowcase from my own personal childhood.  If you are eagle-eyed you will see that this made it into the ParaPod film, but don't tell Disney (I didn't clear it)

If you are ever unfortunate enough to end up in my bed you will see this Premium Format Han in Carbonite should you turn away from me to the right.

This is an actual original cinema poster from 1983, when they released the three films as a job lot in cinemas.  You will be right to envy me when I tell you that I found this. Didn't buy it, it was in the loft of a flat that a friend of mine moved into.  Along with some porn cinema posters (which I unforgivably blu-tacked up to my wall and they got torn and destroyed) AND two copies of Return Of The Jedi cinema posters which I keep forgetting to sell.

And finally...

I do love the previous cinema poster but this is my absolute favourite.  It's from an independent seller called InfiniteHermitArt on Etsy (the caps are important when you're searching), and is really beautiful.  All the art in that store is.  I know the bloke who runs it is desperately trying to raise funds at the moment, so by all means have a look on there at some point. Actually here's a link...I hear he is putting some bespoke ParaPod stuff up in the very near future, that incorporates actual bits of props from the film, as well as some original art...

(it's me...obviously it's my store)

And that, was a stupidly long post with a stupid amount of pictures.  Let's see it as a nice treat that is very much out of the way now.

Thanks for bearing with.  Hope you are safe and sound over there.

Much love to you

That's not a vintage one, apparently they are very temperamental. It's the Arcade 1UP version and has ESB and ROTJ on it too. Genuinely plays and feels identical to the vintage though.

I think Galaxy's Edge doesn't get the credit it deserves. It definitely suffers from being placed in a specific time period (between Ep8 & 9) which I'd say was a daft move, but it's a really pleasing place all round. I liked it a lot without feeling overwhelmed by it. And there's another collection on the way later this coming week...

I love all of this but that Tarkin is incredible! And I would sacrifice a vital organ for a vintage SW arcade cabinet. That is a lovely bit of kit

Love these, never be afraid to show off a bit when it's a collection you're proud of building. I'm hoping it won't be too long before I finally get to visit Galaxy's Edge.
