Art - Alien Foreplay

Hello there

For today's art post, I bring you the most-dreaded and frustrating thing; a half finished work.

It's ongoing, and you'll deffo see the whole thing within the week, but you will spot from the design and the progress that it's a big job.  It's a commission thing for my good pal Sammy, which I'm doing as a thank you for all her kindness and support this year.  She's bullied me as well, and keeps sending me seasonal pictures despite my assertion that I don't want any of that around me, but generally speaking she has gone way beyond the call of duty this year, and - along with Rob, Jon and Kate, kept a very close eye on me. She's ace.

I actually offered to do this commission after Sam interrupted her holiday and did a load of shopping for me at Disney earlier in the year. I thought I'd get a request to do a portrait of her or a family member or whatever, but no, she said she wanted a bespoke design from Alien. Which took me months to get round to putting together, but the image is actually bespoke.  There's around ten different components.  

In fact, here's a quiz question - can anyone tell me what the background is from?  It's not from any of the Alien films, but it is officially an Alien licensed thing.  No prize because competitions aren't allowed on Patreon as it's technically gambling and could get the whole thing shut down, but just for kudos.  I'll tell you in the concluding art post for this.

Another frustration with this post is I am just doing the scenery, so the bit you would actually want to see is just a big white blob in the middle.  I choose to think of this as an exciting tease, but I appreciate it's annoying.

I also drew this differently to normal, as I usually do the flat black last in my pics.  This one is so fiddly and complicated that I needed to do it first so I could actually see which bit I was drawing.  Even with that done, this was wayyyyy more fiddly than I anticipated.  

I'd have enjoyed doing it very much if I wasn't battling yet another cold.

General block black, but look at all the bits that I'd left in little clouds that need actually drawing... I thought this was going to be so simple...

(I admit, a lot of these comments are just to make Sam feel guilty)

We have chains ON chains now...

There's the point where I transitioned from solid black into texturing.  So I basically had to go over the whole thing again and add shading and texture.

Two days work which brings us to...

Now, I'd personally be quite happy to call that finished, but in the next art post (probs Monday) it will be actually finished with the Space Elf all drawn into it too.  Or whatever it's called.

Hope your week is off to a lovely start, Loopholes tomorrow but Kate is proper ill (although, after teasing her for it  I have since got worst ill), so it's a chunk of deleted from last week.  I'm not actually being half-arsed on here this week, just negotiating obstacles!
