Artwork - Alien Conclusion

Hello there

Hope you had a lovely weekend over there. Me?  Oh, minus seven in the house, flu and a diverticula flare up. Yep, loving every second.

So, this is the second and concluding part of the Alien drawing I've been doing for my ungrateful friend Sammy, who will probably just throw it in the bin.  She has been great though, and this was initially a thank you for her being a Disney Mule for me earlier in the year, but now has all manner of kindnesses in its debt. That said, she did message me on Saturday to whine that it still hadn't arrived...

All the background was done in the first post, and now we get to foreground.  This is the most back-to-front I've ever done a portrait I think.  I would normally begin with the focal part of the image and work from there, but as there were no concerns on this about getting human features accurate, I decided to do it all the other way round.  It's also, as you can see, profoundly difficult to make out what is what until it's drawn, so the block blacks gave plenty of signposts to me as I went on.

And on.

And on.

This has been a ridiculous one.  Very satisfying but without a doubt the most fiddly thing I've ever drawn.  I'm not even sure you'll be able to make head nor tail of the progress pics as it's all so intricate.

Here's where we are starting from though...

I started with further black lines and more precise black blocking to get it all to the point of just detail work...

Oh I should also point out that for whatever reason, my phone started really playing up with the lighting as this went on, so you might spot it getting brighter and brighter.  I did try and fix it, but the world despises me presently.

See what I mean about it being barely decipherable?  That's the head of the space elf there.

Gorgeous - I shall call it Bobo.

I mean, it was weirdly satisfying but took soooooo long.

This was the chang-over point, where the lining work morphed into detailing work.  It was also when the pics got harder to take.  These are all much brighter than would flatter it.  In real life the black is more solid.

I'm definitely drawing something Star Wars next. None of this Geiger nonsense.

And that was that...we finally arrive at...

I left a corner available to sign it in white and then completely forgot to do it before sending it off.  So that should increase the value a bit etc.

Oh I also finished off those Saints pictures, the ones that I was doing as a thank you to the players who sent video messages to Kim after her surgery.

There they all are.  I appreciate none of you will even know who they are, like. Sending them off tomorrow.

Horrible boy aren't I?

Oh and definitely finally, if you were wondering what the background was that I told you was officially Alien related but not from the films, it was this...

Oh "OF COURSE" you are all saying.  It's the Alien bit from the long-gone Great Movie Ride in Disney World.  I'd have enjoyed that as well, but it had been trashed well before I got there. I bet you can buy bits of that set in Florida thrift stores now.

Hope you have a lovely week ahead and that it is warming up for those of you in the UK.  Feel free to send some warmth here as well.  My leccy meter has just tipped fifty quid for this week and I wouldn't have minded that half as much if I'd actually been warm.  I mean, just a cuddle would probably help.

Much love to you

Pleased enough with them, there's currently a panic because the Alien pic wasn't delivered and am worried it's genuinely lost in the post. It was sent "signed for" but still...

I think it was just how the camera pulled the image - I didn't add any colour to the actual piece as I always worry I'll ruin them. Although, the Saints players were done on an ivory paper so there is a lot of white added - it just doesn't proper show on the pics

Excellent work. Are you pleased with how they all turned out?

Craig Harrison - Cult Cat Fusser

Great work, did you add blue highlights to the alien image. The header image looks like it has them
