Beatings
Added 2024-03-28 15:10:38 +0000 UTCTwo waves with slightly different wavelengths will produces so called 'Beatings'.
In some spots the two waves add together, while in others they cancel each other out. We perceive this as one sound that gets loud and quite in quick succession. In fact, the frequency of the change in amplitude is given by the difference in frequency of the two waves. With one wave of 440Hz and one of 441Hz, there will be a beating of 1Hz, or in other words, the amplitude of the resulting wave will have 1 beating per second.
I've made these animations for the master thesis of my gf. They are free to use! Go Go Education :)
