Vera (Term 1)
Added 2016-12-17 01:57:00 +0000 UTCThe desert was quiet, only the occasional rattle of a snake reminded them that there were creatures skittering about - hiding in places unseen. To hear a whimper in the distance seemed so foreign, that Vera's insatiable curiosity had drawn her to its source without question. In tow, her blonde companion tiptoed nervously.
It barked and whined, just a pup lost from it's mother. It was nestled in the brush, shrouded from the sun by a looming rock. It's glare was a mixture of fear and hostility; understandable, it knew nothing of contact with humans. Yet Vera always had this gift when it came to nature, odd as it was. The little thing hushed right up the moment it caught a whif of the backside of her hand. It whined again, though this time it rang with need. By the time Vera had caressed it's cheek, it was nuzzling her palm as if they were longtime friends. In moments she was scooping it up, hushing it's terror as she ensconced it in a maternal grasp.
Mina had reached out to poke at it's fur, a tentatively little gesture, only to have the creature snap at her defensively!
"Might as well call him Bitey!" She grumbled and Vera smirked, though it was hidden by a tuft of fur on the pup.
"Is not a name." Vera retorted with a toss of her hair, and sauntered back in the direction of camp with their new friend in her embrace.
"Scout," She said at last. "What we call him." And the pup barked as if in agreement, before dropping it's head down onto her shoulder in contentment.

I spent so much time on this one, but I am so impressed with what it became. The lighting was difficult, and I'm still not sure if I totally got it right but - practice!
